What is this extra digit?
I have a DD which I purchased more than 20 years ago with the help of my friend in Hong Kong. He was in the jewelry business and his brother is in the watch business. I saw this DD in a brochure. I showed that to him and ask him to locate one for me. He was able to locate the watch off shore (outside HK) and gave me a great deal. Since I am from the States, it would not matter if I brought this watch from HK or from another country as it would be considered as sourced from a Gray Market either way. The watch is genuine as I have taken it to RSC for service. I am posting this not to gloat that I got a great deal but looking for an answer for the extra digit on the Model number.
The model of my DD is 18206 which means DD, smooth bezel and PT. This I know but what is the extra ‘6’ at the end of the 5 digits as shown in the brochure? I know there is an answer as my friend once told me when I got the watch but I forgot about the whole thing. I was moving my watch pictures into a new folder on my notebook and noticed this extra digit and I cannot find the answer. It has been bugging me since. |

Thanks for the reply.
You are probably right. I do think he said dial but I do not remember what that ‘6’ means. The diamond dial or the color or that particular dial configuration. My friend passed away a few years ago or I would have asked him directly. I should have paid more attention when he first told me but I was so excited about getting this DD, I was not listening. I remember that I was playing cool and did not want to show too much excitement. I should have asked more questions. |

That's the metal code , Pt in your case. Here are the rules (Rolex USA only) : This is for a 4 digits watch. For a 5 digits, the 5th digit have been integrated in the watch ref# , in both cases the 6th digit is the metal code. |

The 5th digit is 6 which is PT. I was asking for the last code which is the 6th digit. The picture you attached shows the last set of numbers is for the dial color. In your picture it shows 10 which is Silver color. Using your picture as reference, the model numbers on the brochure are fully decoded. 182 – DD 0 – Smooth Bezel 6 – PT 6 – Color, Rhodium/Grey |

The second 6 is part of the metal code , not the dial. Your dial , silver with 8 round and 2 baguettes diamonds, is coded 1A Your complete reference should be R1820661AB838560 (with Pt president Bracelet 8385/6) |

However, I fetched my box and got the warranty papers just to see what is listed. It lists a 5-digit numbers 18206. I also looked at my paper from RSC when I took my watch for service. It also matched what is on the warranty. There is a description on the Dial. It lists it as an 18038 Rhodium 8RDM2BDMXL W. That is why I call that color as Rhodium as it is much darker than a Silver Dial. I am now trying to decipher the description of the Dial as listed by RSC. 8RDM2BDMXL W 8RD – 8 round diamond M – medium 2B – 2 baguette diamond M – medium XL – extra-long W – White I am not sure about the M as I asked my friend to get the watch like the brochure. The brochure said large brilliants and my watch does look just like the brochure. I have seen my fair number of Rolex and the diamonds on my dial are probably large. In fact, the newer Rolex with diamonds on the dial now only appear large because of the setting. The new setting has metal surrounding the diamonds. |
