hi everyone, i am new to this forum. just wondered if anuyone could advise. recently i put my gmt 11 c in my jeans pocket as I did not want to show the watch. as a result, the inner part of the bracelet scratched againts he back (cover ) of the watch. its fairly new, and it hurts man. any ideas ? would trying to polish the scratch make it even worse?

Welcome along kjc, the scratches are cool. Just leave them and know that they were your watch's first "character marks". There will be plenty of others and when it goes for a service it will come back looking like new.

If you are going to put your watch in your pocket on a regular basis, you need one of these.
They have a wafer that goes between the band and the back and keeps it all safe and pristine! I have seen them on eBay. Search for Rolex pouch.

Scratches happen! Just enjoy the watch, once it goes in for service, all will be forgotten!

my white dial ss daytona have more scratches than the ss subdate...now that is cool
However there is care, sometime at work I usually have the watch wrap in soft napkin before placing it into pant pocket. Not good idea wearing an expensive watch while racking a 75 lbs server. |

Scratches will happen. The quicker you accept it the better. Haing said that, Richard is right. The Rolex pouch makes a great travel companion for your fine Swiss timepiece. dP

Welcome to TRF! !!
I am like most people here paranoid about scratches (i am quite good at making them myself...) but you have to live with it... and you get used to it. If really you can't sleep about it go to your AD to get it removed. I did on mine it was a great experience

I'm continually amazed at how scratches freak people out. A watch is a watch and it's going to get scratched. Stressing out over scratches just sucks the fun out of wearing them. Of course these are very expensive watches and that probably has something to do with it, but I would say to relax and allow your watch to earn its 'loved-but-worn' finish.
If wearing a minty looking pristine watch is important, then learning to refinish by hand will guarantee that you'll always be able to restore it to new condition. |

It is a Velum Indenture from the 19th century.

Don't really mind the back of the watch, it's the front that irks!

I thought I was hallucinating when I saw the username "mr happy ending" above.
Anyway, if the scratches bother you that much... have your local RSC take them out. It's quick and not that expensive. If you can wait, routine service time will arrive before you know it. |

Just avoid metal to metal contact and you'll be fine in the future. I always lay my watch on the side if they're not in my winder - I never lay them flat because the metal touches the metal....
Just be careful with the watch and don't beat on it, you'll be ok and you'll be surprised how minty your watch will still look in a couple of years. Scratches do happen, but that doesn't mean that you should just let yourself go and let the watch get beat.

I too was saddened to find a very minor, small scratch in the crystal on my GMT-II. But it was bound to happen eventually. Now I can sit back and relax because the watch has been officially initiated.

The scratches are on the back, so why bother about it. I would recommend you keep your watch on in case you drop it. Now that would be a problem.

If you really want to attempt to remove the scratch, you can always pick up some Cape Cod Polishing Clothes. But use them sparingly. It might make it look better, if not remove it altogether.
