swiss-T<25
i looked at a new GMT Master II 16713 P series at an A/D. so technically the watch is around 8 years old.
it has slate dial & T/T. instead of "swiss made" written on the 6 o'clock mark, it has "swiss-T<25" on it. what does that mean? |

That represents a tritium dial rather than the super luminova designated by "swiss made".

It refers to the amount of tritium activity in the markers. T<25 means activity less than 25 millicuries. A millicurie is a measurement of radioactivity.

My sea dweller from 1987 had "t<25" on it...and when the lume wore out, and I had it serviced, it got switched to "swiss made"...
I would have preferred the original tritium dial. |

Neither, Tritium does not need to be "charged" by a light source, but it will eventually lose the glow.

I think Tritium has a short half-life, 12.5 years I think.

Super-Luminova can be re-charged indefinitiely, but can degrade if it comes in contact with moisture. Also, Tritium produces a constant brightness, whereas Luminova will fade gradually after being charged.

For a period of time Rolex used dials already marked with the tritium distinction that had yet hade luminous compound applied. Rather than throw them away, they simply applied luminova. Some feel it's a bit of a collectors item. Generally used around 98-03 give or take. Any glow at all? |

Once upon a midnight dreary
The cyclotron crew was weak and weary; In walked the Boss with a smile so cheery, In walked the Boss with a very broad smile. "Boys," he said "Here's a wonderful chance" "Boys," he said, "It'll make you want to dance" "Boys," he said, "We must activate some iron, Eighty millicuries by half-past nine!"

It is like Panerai...all the pre-vendome (previous Richemond group) The Panerai use to be identified T-swiss-T at 6 o'clock.
Those Panerai are very ewxpensive today and worth almost double of there price!!! Ex: The modern Pam112 worth about $5000.00 the identical called 002-A ( older 112) is now worth abouth $13,000.00 on the actual market. |
