Rolex Daytona RG on Oyster Flex

New here. Thanks in advance for the feedback.

Visited an AD to try to establish a relationship. I've been an AP / Panerai guy for a while and have reached the point in my life where I appreciate the history of Rolex and am moving toward smaller watches.

Mid-May I stopped into an AD and put down a deposit for RG Daytona with Black dial / RG sub dial. The deposit is refundable.

When I put down the deposit, I was told 4 - 10 weeks for delivery. It's been 3 months and still no watch. My AD is telling me to be patient and that the watch was 'ordered', but they wouldn't know when Rolex would deliver.

My question to the forum is: Is she telling the truth? Can ADs order PM watches? I understand we are not in a normal market, but is it normal to wait this long. I never knew it would be this hard to buy a PM Rolex.

thanks in advance.

I waited for just under a month for my RG Daytona.
If your AD is an independent business then yes it could take that long.

That RG Daytona is a smoking hot piece. Short of being short on time due to a chronic illness I would just chill out and wait. Your gonna have a badass piece here real soon!

I think that specific combination is the hardest to find. I saw a batch hit back in May of this year (my main AD got multiples of them for various stores in the chain), haven't seen any since both OF in general but also that specific combo, so my anecdotal guess would be that they are still waiting on the next batch of that combo.

Even before the shortage, it was not always easy to find that combo, saw lots of the rose gold dials, but very few of the black, maybe 1/10.

I have seen this piece a couple of times in Chicago and another AD in the States a few months back.

Check a grey dealer for availability and price. It might be a better way.

Yeah, I would just be patient. It’s an amazing watch and worth the wait.

I got that exact watch by a fluke. My AD, of which I’ve done a lot of business with over the years, had me on the waiting list for a SS Daytona, I went in one day, and she said, “Well I don’t have anything yet, but a guy did just bounce out on this order.” She said he ordered it eight months ago, and when the watch came in he had to refund his deposit as he couldn’t afford it. She went into the back, brought it out, and I bought it on the spot. So it was really just a lucky day for me. But apparently it took eight months to fulfill the order.

It took me about a month to receive my WG Daytona on OF from my AD. This was around November of last year. I think the wait is longer with the OF models due to higher demand.

I would stick with that AD. Probably won’t be much longer now. In the meantime, you could check in with other AD’s in the area. You just might get lucky.

Yes it is surely normal. AD may request, but Rolex decides when and what to ship. Usually up to half an year they should deliver what has been placed as an order. So, stay calm and you’ll very soon get what you ordered.

Thanks everyone for the responses. I'd like to buy from an AD to start the relationship building. Hopefully this purchase 'qualifies' me to purchase a SS Daytona (in black) or a BLNR on jubilee.

I think you're right. I was offered this combo at an AD in Honolulu and passed. Didn't want to pay retail for a PM piece and they weren't budging on price, wouldn't even cover the tax at 4.6%. I've slowly come to the realization that there is no discount on this PM piece and the days of getting a healthy discount on a PM Rolex is gone.

I’ve been looking for quite some time, about a year. Davidsw never had the watch. Watchbox had it at $1k below retail. There wasn’t a big enough discount to buy grey vs AD thus I decided the AD route. Like I said, Honolulu AD would not even cover the 4% tax. I figure I’ll pay full RRP. And hopefully qualify for a SS model of my choosing. If you don’t mind, DM me the price you paid at your AD. Thx
