Ceramic diver is under the radar

Quick story. Have a patient in his 80’s who was wearing a gold zenith era Daytona. Talking watches with him a few months ago he has an early military sub which I’m still waiting to see and said he has a "50’s or 60’s GMT" that he has had since new. Asked him to bring them in at some point as I’d love to see them. On Thursday he comes in with the GMT. From his description I was hoping for a Bakelite bezel or at least a Gilt era GMT. He had a very well worn Mk1 Long E GMT that was 68-72 range with original hands that were chipping, original dial with stone white lume c/w it’s heavy wear, service bezel and later bracelet. Totally thanked him for bringing it in when he looked at the ceramic diver on my wrist and commented that I wasn’t wearing a Rolex today. For past year or two I’ve exclusively had some 4 digit rolex on my wrist at work. I told him “can’t always be wearing something fancy”. He smirks, nods his head and complemented me on my G shock. Perfect. So, ceramic diver is officially under the radar with the general population. Really pleased to be wearing something that I know is special but that few will notice. At least I hope this proves to be the case.

For the most part I agree and that’s great. But that said, not surprised since the gentleman is in his 80s. AP has really only taken off recently in the states.
