Gold Rolex

I am a newbie here, please accept my apologies for lack of knowledge on Rolex watches. A very old friend of mine has a 14carat yellow gold Rolex that he is trying to sell. I have looked on Flea/bay and may have to go that route. I want him to get the most he can for the watch , where would be the best place to sell a used gold Rolex. He never wore it, it has all the papers and the box with it. The watch is a 1996 model. Thanks in advance for any help. David

Gold Rolex

Welcome to the forum. You need to add some info to get context.

What reference number is on the papers? Not the serial number, but the number that denotes the model. On a strap (less popular) or a fully linked bracelet (more popular) make a difference too.

You can search TRF in the classifieds to see what those are fetching here. But a truly never worn watch from 1996 is hard to find - your friend surely did wear it, right?

I think Rolex switched to 18k well before 1996... like in the early-mid 1980s! Curious to see how this evolves...

I thought Rolex haven’t made. 14k gold watch for decades. They have been 18k for a very long time.

It will be tough to sell as a newbie on the forum and eBay only really protects the buyer. This goes against my usual advice that trading with a dealer never makes sense, but this is the first case where I can say you should do this. Selling it to a dealer won't fetch a price, but you can do a little better if you put it towards something your friend wants. Also, I agree that Rolex doesn't make modern 14k watches, so if it is... Houston we have a problem.

Without high quality images there is little we can suggest for you.

If it is that recent you could take it to a Rolex dealer and have them look at it. They might be willing to guide you.

Hi and welcome. Familiarize yourself with the different sections here, specifically the classifieds. Educate yourself first about the model and about selling, there are numerous threads on the topic. Good luck and remember to post pics.

You're probably best off going to a jewelers

Post a pic .... someone here might be interested and I would love to see it. I assume it's a DateJust, but like others have said, if it's really 14k, it's not from the '90s.
