Possible DavidSW purchase.

So as it now sits this is my collection, I'm really interested in the Polar GMT in 40mm. Now I sold my 116610 date as I actually hated the 6 digit date sub. Also not sure I'm bonding with thwe OP 39mm white dial very much as well.

So to add a GMT (white dial) to keep some flavor to the collection would you say yes (for those that own one). The Daytona is out of my current budget and after trying one on, they dont look right on me.

So either 36mm DJ
40mm Polar GMT

Just looking for opinions on those that may own them. DAVIDSW has the explorer for around 8.4k I believe with box and papers.

The 6 digit Sub Date and Op39 white are actually 2 of my favorite watches so I’m not sure I’ll be much help but I do like your collection!

I had the Exp II Polar and it looked great but wore too small on me. Much happier with the size of the GMT II LN. 7.25 inch wrists for what it’s worth, but if you’re looking at a DJ36 then perhaps the 40mm Exp II will be a great size for you. Exp II was, by a long way, the most comfortable watch I’ve owned.

Out of curiosity I did look up the watch in question, and I am certainly not the foremost expert, but in all my research when I was buying mine, I never came across an Exp II with chamfers like the one DSW has. Again, if you like it then that may be irrelevant to you, but just thought I’d point that out. Nothing against DSW, I bought my GMT from him and he was an absolute pleasure.

Maybe post the pictures for others (more knowledgeable than I) to review and confirm?

That price sounds outrageous for a 5 digit Expll. Even if it's a 3186 Polar. Did you ever think about a 42 Expll. With its tapered lugs and smaller twin lock crown it might surprise you. It feels a little lighter and more comfy to me than a 6 digit Sub date as well. Good Luck and Happy Choosing !!

Respectfully, why did you buy the Sub if you hated it and the OP if you didn't bond right away when you tried it on?

I would take your time this time around and really make sure you are buying what you love. These are expensive mistakes that can be avoided if you buy what you love rather than what might be available or popular. Hope that helps and good luck brother!

I agree. I buy what I like but will confer on price or
condition if pre-owned.

Personally I would’ve kept your Sub C, the explorer does nothing
for me. The Bluesy on the other hand is a home run !

Nice collection...

Could the problem be that you have too many watches? Do you intend on starting a collection or are you finding "the one"?

I'd downscale everything down to 2 watches, that 114060 + 16613LB

I'd go for the DJ36 just to add something dressy.

I think the white/polar explorer II is a classic. It is clean and can be dressy or casual. I think it would fit well into your existing collection and provide a nice contrast and compliment!

Guys let me be clear on this...
My post states I was looking at the explorer.
I dont have the cash for a Daytona.
I got rid of the Sub C Date (I perfer the 5 digit model).
The 114300 was aquired in a trade so no money was lost/spent on it, it was always the idea to have it engraved for my brother graduating from medical school in April.

I was simply asking for opinions from those who have owned or currently own one of the two, how you like it, etc.... My collection is always changing minus 2 select ones which will always stay.

Thank you for your time.

The new DJ36 makes a bit more sense money wise.
8.4K usd for the old Explorer is quite high.

The brand new DJ 36mm with steel bezel (70hrs power reserve) costs 6200 usd at the AD.

Thanks for that, are those using the new 32 movement?

Yes, just went yesterday and tried one. These are the best buy at the moment imo.
Anything else with the new movement costs a lot more or it is very hard to get.

I consider a blue stick dial 36mm DJ.

Either the 36mm DJ (with jubilee) or 16570 Polar are great choices. Haven’t owned either but have tried both on.

I do agree, however, that 8.4k for the exp 2 is about 2k more than you should be spending and you should shop around.

Called my normal AD, they have a white dial roman with jubliee, and a black dial roman with oyster. Both in stock and holding for me for this afternoon. Price is 100$ difference between white/black.

They are both great. I am personally after a stick dial as I have a DD with roman.
They should be also able to swap the bracelets according to your reference. My AD does that.
The 100 bucks difference is a bit funny. They should all be the same price

According to them the Jubliee is 100$ more than the oyster.

...the white Daytona C and 6 digit sub date are two of my favorites don’t think my opinion would help you then. But just a word of advice, seems your a little heavy in the stainless category. Trade that two tone sub in on a pm piece

I went from a blue dial OP39 to a DJ41 and it was a good move for me. Maybe take alook at the 41? Good luck

You should be able to find an older exp ii for $6-$7k. That’s the average All over ebay at that price.

I see you mentioned 36mm DJ at the end. I love the new model and it would add a new dimension to your current collection. I would forget the sport model you mentioned to add. Too similar to what you already have. BTW, I really like the white dial 39mm OP. Contrast is striking.

Out of curiosity. You didn't like the 6 digit sub date? But you like the 6 digit sub....? How is that since they are essentially the same watch?

The 40mm Polar wears similar to your 5 digit Subs but will sit a little flatter due to smaller case back. The 16570 is the last 5 digit I have in my collection. Love the watch, comfortable and easy to read. Probably never move it. Old T serial with T dial. That being said, most days you will find me in one of my 6 digit Subs.

I like the looks of 36mm DJ's but last couple I had did not stay with me very long. Too small for my taste these days. If I ever do DJ again it will be the larger models.

As far as I'm concerned you can never go wrong with a 16570. It gets the most wrist time of my four.

The only Explorer I've owned is the polar II and it's the only one I'd ever be happy with. Absolutely zero interest in the 40mm. If you want an Explorer, I would recommend the 216570.
