Nice Encounter at Sydney Airport with Fellow WIS

So I've noticed a few threads recently about people encountering rude questions about their watch while out in public or approaching others and not having their watch enthusiasm reciprocated. In contrast, this is just a short anecdote about a positive encounter with a fellow watch enthusiast that I had recently:

Not long ago, I was boarding a QANTAS flight and was handing my ticket to the attendant for scanning when he immediately blurted out, "Nice watch!" I wasn't expecting this so was only able to manage a not terribly creative "Thanks!" in return. He then followed up with something which initially sounded like, "Eeeets da Keeermet". After I requested clarification I suddenly realised the guy was Scottish and was obviously referring to the fact that I was wearing my Kermit. That opened up a short, very fun conversation about Rolex, the crazy prices for SS models and the nice, two-tone GMT he was wearing.

Just in case he's lurking on these forums, Nathan, the Scottish flight attendant from QANTAS was a great guy and I enjoyed our unexpected encounter.

The unfortunate coda to this anecdote is that after boarding in a happy mood having encountered a fellow WIS in the wild, our flight was cancelled due to a technical fault and I couldn't get onto another flight for the next few hours. With air travel, you have to take the good and the bad, I guess.

I was at the Sydney airport earlier this month. Your post reminded me about the Rolex store in terminal 1. No stock except full gold YMII. We’re all used to that by now. But incredibly they also had no employees. I just walked around the store and there was literally no one else there. Why even bother to have a store there?

I also recently had a good airport watch conversation, in Bozeman Montana. Older gentleman was wearing a Coke and carrying a flyrod case. We talked briefly about trout stream prospects, and then he said "Nice Sub!" which led to a brief watch convo. His recently returned from the Dallas RSC, and he was thrilled with its looks and function (light polish done right, he said).

Go me to thinking- Sure, I REALLY like the BLRO, but if Rolex pops out a RONR at Basel this year, there may be an unexpected purchase, or at least wait-list place.

I was at the same store, about the same time and thinking the exact same thing. It looked like a store for display cases.
