Why didn’t I think of this earlier???

Let’s blame it on all the new BitCoin millionaires spending their gains.

- AD informs me in October that all deposits have been refunded. No ETA, quantities and configurations unknown, for skydwellers

- Chat with AD in late November. She politely rants about the lack of any popular models.

- Call up ADs in the surrounding areas, including the US. I get lots of chuckles, as in "get in line buddy, it isn't happening anytime soon" or "pay in full like the others did and when it comes in you'll get it"

- Chat with AD in December, they tell me to expect a looooong wait. Basically tell me to adjust my expectations.

- I look at DavidSW inventory, find the white skydweller that I want for the price in Canada after tax. I swap my rolex and pay the difference. Skydweller on my wrist in January

- I go to AD to get it fitted. They are floored. First one in their store.

- I go back yesterday to get it fitted again. Still no skydwellers in sight. But they are putting new Rolexes on the floor. "nothing as nice as yours, just more datejusts"

I felt super uncomfortable going in there, now twice, to get my watch fitted. How can they run a business if Rolex doesn't bother to supply them watches presented 10 months ago? Sales staff are super friendly and I can't imagine the disappointment of not being to sell and instead seeing people get their watches from other sources. Forget the commission, from a professional stand point it must suck.

And now Basel 2018 is around the corner? Like I said in the Basel 2018 thread, I hope to see the 2018 watches in 2019. Maybe I should adjust my expectations and look forward to seeing them in, 2021?

I think I understand what Rolex are doing and why, I just hope they take care of their reps downstream.

Quite right.
I imagine Rolex will have ways of making it up to the dealers they wish to keep.
I suspect there may be some paring back of the amount of dealers by the time this fully plays out.

40,000 units. The CEO, François-Henry Bennahmias, started capping at 40K pieces a couple years ago. This year at SIHH he said the cap is still going to be in place for 2018 and 2019. They will reevaluate for 2020. The mix within the 40K pieces is the interesting part. There are still a bunch of hot models they intentionally don’t produce enough of.
As it stands our household is not in the market for a Rolex and may not be for the foreseeable future.
But we are currently looking at a manufacturer that makes between 150 and 200 watches per annum. That's where our money looks like it's going. 40,000 units would devalue the brand as far as we are concerned.
We are still waiting for the hot Rolex Basel 2017 releases to arrive as far as I know.

This has a lot of merit

As Rolex continues to reduce the supply of popular models that money trends into other models from other brands. Some of these Rolex customers may be lost for good. There is really no sense to Rolex marketing. Reduction in supply also pushes grey market prices up thereby increasing the supply into the grey market as people flip for the quick growing profit. Most ADs have received two steel Daytonas white dials since the 2016 release. If your not next up for certain it could be a while.

Perhaps...
But for me, the long queues for the Daytona500 motivated me to sell off a couple of pieces and combine those proceeds with what I would’ve spent for the 500 > but I didn’t go to another brand - instead I bought a Platona from Takuya here on TRF. Now Rolex didn’t get the money, but neither did a competitor.

So I think much of the money that would’ve gone for an unobtainable popular SS Professional model may for into a different Rolex model.

This could mean so many different things... and there are a lot of good theories stated in this thread. Mine? I think (HOPE) that this is a sign Rolex is introducing entirely new models, and/or replacing the movements in the current sport models at Basel.

Hmmm, I did something very similar at the end of 2016 while waiting for my white SS Daytona ship to come in.

Make sure all these rumors are true before doing anything you will regret.I checked with three of my ADs and no one has received any letters.
Hold tight you can always get your deposit refunded.
I fully expect to receive my hulk by the end of Feb been on the list since December.

i'd be really surprised if they didn't roll out the new movements into the sports line. how long can they go with tudor having new in house 70 hour power reserve movements and subs selling with 30 year old 3135s with 50 hour power reserves? In fact, the 3135 debuted in 1988, so 30 years later is a perfect round number year to upgrade!

If they roll out the 3235 at Basel it might change things. Haven’t really seen the low supply in Atlanta anyway.

I tend to be an optimist and I hope that those who predict that this is a run-up to Basel and a raft of new, or at the least modified, models are correct.

This may be the most exciting Basel ever.

Rolex is letting all Authorized Dealers IN WRITING that, effective immediately, they will CUT BACK the production of ALL professional line watches. Not only SS, but 2T and precious metal.

Therefore, we, as customers, will see LESS of these units at our AD’s. Hold on to your subs, GMTs, Daytonas...steel, rolesor or gold/platinum. They will be harder to get.

That's right, so the bigger question is are the current models of Sub, GMT's and Explorers going to be viewed as redundant with the introduction of all the new models with the upgraded movement (cal. 3235/6)?

What if we see released at Basel:
(a) A Red Submariner with new 3235 movement, bracelet and case (42mm)? and/or
(b) A Pepsi and Coke Stainless Steel GMT with 3236 movement and luminous ceramic bezel in 42mm? and/or
(c) An Explorer II with new 3236 a black or green ceramic luminous bezel???

I will no longer have any great interest in the current model Sub, GMT and EXII.

Remember you heard it here first from the horse's mouth!!!

You're posting against a long-term and very well-respected member who has built a reputation for honesty and integrity in all that he does.

Perhaps, you should adopt more of a wait-and-see attitude, instead of dismissing what GerardoG has to say.

If you knew him the way that many here do, you would at least be respectful in your skepticism.
