I was just 24 when I got my first Rolex as a birthday present from my late Dad, Though I owned a G-shock and a Casio. It felt good.

I was 21 and got it when I graduated college while I was working 40 weeks to pay for school. One of my best friends dad owned a jewelry store in Philly and knew I wanted to buy a GMT some day. One day after I had graduated we were in the family store and his dad showed me a new GMT and said what can you give me for it? I laughed and said $500 :-). He said, sold! I have had that GMT for 29 years and would never part with this first Rolex. His dad was a great guy and even helped with getting my wife her engagement ring.

I was 26 when I bought my brand new sub C date from Emperor Watches at the Hilton hotel in Singapore. I had saved for 2 years prior to that purchase. I can't recall what I wore before that but it was some quartz Seiko on a leather strap.

I was 26 when I got my first Rolex, a F serial Sea-dweller. Got it for little over 3k new which makes me wonder how much prices have gone up since then.

27. I had just returned home from an extended period overseas and proposed to my now wife. Purchased an unpolished 16710 Pepsi. Paid $5200. At the time it was the one watch I could wear forever. Immediately caught the bug and purchased a polar 16570 the following week.

I was 20 years, and my savings account had for the first time passed $100.000 after lots of hard dedicated work and it was a milestone for me. Years before I had promised myself that when that happens I will treat myself with something (to me) extraordinary. I had no clue what to buy, then I did stumble over an ad saying "Rolex, a crown for every achievement." This was an achievement to me so I purchased an old beaten Datejust 36mm from the mid 80's with no box, no nothing, I had no clue what I was doing. Before that Datejust I had not even used a wristwatch for years or even cared for watches at all. Now I am addicted.

I purchased a Cartier for my 30th, a Breitling 6 months after that, and I think I bought my first Rolex in the September of that year, so I would have just turned 31.
It was a black sub, no date. I barely wear it, but it's my first, so holds a special place. |

I was 21 and it was a 36mm two tone date just woh ivory pyramid dial and Roman numerals. It became a little too flashy for my taste as I got older and flipped it years later.

I was 24, and had just gotten my graduate degree. My mother said "what do you want for a graduation gift?" I said "a Rolex", she said "how much are they?" I said "$450 plus tax." She said that is too much but offered to pay for half. A week later I walked out of the AD with a Submariner Date 1680 ( I think). I still have it 41 years later. (1977).

38 in 2012, SubC Date. Good old days when most SS sports models were readily available, and over 10% discount with light negotiations. Polar Exp II in 2016, same thing. How things had changed in less than 2 years.
