There's a typo on the 2007 introductions; that's a 5165 pictured, not a 5065 as the caption suggests.

I was thinking of the same as it is indeed a 5165 pictured on the 2007 introductions. I am surprised they missed out the 5060J

That was the version with Romans and a leather strap, right?

Aside from movement, any difference between the 5060 and 5065? They have the same case dimensions, no?

Did it ever come with one? Thought it was always 315. And are the “e” prefix calibers quartz? I was also unaware that the 5065 ever came so equipped.

That is correct, 5060J was the version with Roman numerals and a leather strap

There are a couple of differences between the 5060J and 5065J. As mentioned above 5065J has the updated caliber 315 SC, in addition to that 5065J is 38.6 mm (up from 35.6 mm for the 5060J) and 5065J has a sapphire case back compared to the solid case back of the 5060J.

Sorry, I meant the 5066 vs. 5060, though it sounds like the differences are as described above aside from size.

5065, not 5165? Wasn't the 5065 long discontinued by 2012?

you'e absolutely right and it's a strange story which only happen in Patek Philippe,
but it is a 5065 in 2012 and with a 324SC
I already knew that my aquanaut was quite unique because the date but not because the movment, that why my question.

In that case, the simplest theory is that someone was doing inventory, found a handful of 5065 cases, and it was decided to sell them with the current movement.

I'm curious: Did you ever look at the certificate that came with it to see what year it was originally manufactured? I seem to recall there being a series of letters on the certificates that basically served as a code for the month/year of manufacture. I forget how to decipher, but I'm sure it's out there. It's always possible that the year of manufacture and year of purchase don't correspond for whatever reason. When I got mine in '05 and it stopped working a month later I found out, using that method, that it had been manufactured several years before when looking into it.

Either way, very, very cool and quite a unique watch!

While not a cool chart like the pictured one, I actually think that www.essentialwatches.com provides a much more comprehensive list, albeit without chronology. It lists both models the site has available, as well as current/discontinued models not in stock.

For example, some of the special editions, like the 5060R, or the 5066/1R (even though it says "J" on the site).

In fact you are absolutely right:
They found 5 cases and made 5 watches but I didn't noticed the movment

Ok, so one of five doesn't make it quite as "unique" as that Aquanaut prototype that recently sold for nearly a half-million dollars, but it's still pretty awesome!

Also just goes to show the contrast between a company like PP and a company like Rolex, where making five extra watches actually means something. Imagine if Rolex were to find five unused, last-generation stainless DJ cases in storage. I highly, highly doubt someone would go ahead and say: "Yea, sure, go ahead and put the current movement in them." Something tells me they'd be thrown in the "spares" bin and never likely heard from again.

Just curious, anyone know when Patek changed dial on the 5167a to have "Swiss made" underneath the 6? Was that around the same time that they moved from Geneva seal to PP seal on movement?
Thanks
