I believe the reflection/appearance is due to the lack of an AR (anti-reflective) coating on Rolex crystals.

If this is incorrect, let the wrath of the community rain down on me.

Nice. Don't beat the Air King too much. I feel this sleeper is going places. Getting one next week. Also for Root Beer, you have good taste.

So many good combos. I like the ones with a Rolex, and a PP, AP, VC as the second one too.

Two of the best old and new references there... I’ve never owned a ‘vintage’ watch, this would definitely be one I’d consider.

I did consider putting the other museum piece up for nomination in this thread. But even though its one of my fav pieces with the breguet numbers and enamel dial, the yellow gold aspect probably limits its wear in a modest 2 watch collection.

I love the blue hands

Thanks for the kind words my friend. You can call me a purist I guess. I do think a vintage Datejust may be in order to add a date complication to the mix as well as a non-black dial.

Fantastic pair you have! I know the “panda” gets a lot of attention but for me the black dial Daytona is the one.

I do wonder sometimes if my pair is a bit redundant. At the outset it was not the plan to own the Explorer AND the Sub, just the Explorer. Alas, plans change...

Is the omega with the blue hands still the no 8? What is the difference in production run between your two museum collection pieces?

The one you are quoting with the blue hands is a piece from the omega museum collection number 10

Number 8 is the other one

Number 8
3201 movement
Pink gold case

Number 10
3203 movement
Enamel dial
Blue hands
Yellow gold

Essentially both chronographs with slightly different functions and read outs
Other differences are case material and dial

I've been enjoying this thread this morning & though I don't have mine in one picture I felt compelled to make my own contribution.

Here are my perfect two (which incidentally get the most collective wrist time amongst the others I have in rotation).

Thanks for this pic

That’s because Rolex, unlike other luxury brands like Omega, Breitling etc. don’t use anti reflective coating on it’s crystals except the cyclops lens, which is AR coated for better visibility of the date. Some say the reason is that the AR coating comes off over the years or during service and rolex wants to make their watches durable and something that’ll look same over the years. Whereas some say that without the AR, the watch shines more, reflects more light and is more blingy! I believe it’s the latter coz my sub ceramic date steel in black dial does shine far more than my friend’s omega seamaster black dial. The visibility is more on omega and can tell time from even some distance but the rolex is far more shinier/blingy and looks more classy and expensive. I kinda like that!

No, not redundant at all, completely different looks. More importantly, very different wrist feel between an Explorer and a Sub.

I, too, am looking vintage for my next purchase. Not a DateJust, however. I can't handle the cyclops. I love the functionality of the GMT, but will never be able to overcome the lack of symmetry that comes with a date. I recently sold my vintage 6263 Daytona and want to replace it with a 6238. After years of collecting, most references in and then out, I think I've nailed down my tastes enough to be happy. For me, these three cover all bases.

114300 OP39
116500 Daytona
6238 Pre Daytona (hopefully incoming soon)

What amazes me is after wearing different iterations of the entire Rolex line, through the years, I'm smitten with the damn OP39 ! ! !
