Bought my first Rolex in 1985 and have worn one almost every day since.
Can count the comments on both hands and have a finger or two left ...

My Panerais' generally get notices far more than any other watches, less my YG Daytona.

Never had anybody mention it in five years of ownership. I have however noticed and complimented a few folks on their wrist attire.

I think I’ve only received one comment out of the blue. I have noticed many who couldn’t take their eyes off of it even though they didn’t say anything.
I will usually always comment if I see one out in the wild.

In NYC , some people at the office comment but back home (think small city in the Midwest), nobody bats an eye. Honestly the latter is much preferred.

I’ve only received 1 from a bakery shop worker. He asked if my DJ was a DD haha. We talked about watches for a bit and gave me extra baked goods.

None of my peers ever comments. However, there’s a high end grocery in my hood where most everyone wears Rolexes. The valets have this trick where they compliment people on their nice watches, in the hopes of getting a good tip!

I catch people looking at my watches from time to time.

I'm usually not sure if they are admiring the piece or they just want to know what time it is.

Most of my friends and acquaintances will check out what I'm wearing, just because they know I own some nice pieces and that I rotate a lot. Most of them have no interest in watches, even if they own luxury pieces.

Rarely, someone actually mentions one, but it happens.

The BLNR and the BB36 have gotten the most unsolicited comments in the last decade or so--one for the BLNR and two for the BB36.

Hmmmmm... I thought the same for a while and then I started getting that funny feeling of suppressed jealousy from some people at my work. They would not say anything but you could tell their feelings when they strike a glance over my wrist while (until then) proudly wearing an iCrap on theirs! :)

And the most jealous are the TAG wearing department managers :::)))

I wear a Rolex everyday, for 30 years or so, rotating through my collection. I guess once every Two to three years someone makes a comment .

Honestly I've had more comments on my Seiko Marine Master than any other watch.

And the question (both times) was "Is that a Rolex?" ....

Because of the massive amounts of people wearing gold colored Invicta (Subs) and Invicta (daytonas) and Seiko (Datejust/Daydates) no one even looks twice at my 16628 and 18038.... other than watch people.

I wear an Explorer Mk2 that I bought new in April 2019. I wear it everyday (I've converted to be one watch guy but that's another topic for another thread).

Outside of my family, only one person in all that time has noticed my watch. I realize the Explorer is known for flying under the radar. This was part of the appeal for me as the Mk2 was intended to be the only watch I wear. Perhaps a Daytona or Day Date would garner more attention and I'm quite sure those of you who own such models can comment on that.

I know that we as watch junkies are always looking at other people's wrists. The general public just doesn't notice your watch.

Thanks for reading.
I actually get far more glances and double takes at my 116622 than I thought I would. I think because it is so ambiguous at first glance. No one ever strikes up a conversation on it though. I do however get people talking when wearing my HODINKEE Sistem51 1986

Been wearing a no date sub as a daily for 30 years. The vast majority of people who have commented on it are other Rolex owners. Which is why it will always be my favorite watch.

I also have a smurf and a wg daytona. They both have gotten quite a few comments from the non-Rolex crowd. I can kind of spot fellow Rolex owners because they usually just look at my wrist and smile from ear to ear.

Interesting twist... My extended family knows I'm a watch guy and they are used to seeing the 16600 on my wrist. They appreciate nice things and they know what it is. Since I received my 126660 JC, no one has commented on it. The significant size difference was apparently imperceptible. My conclusion: although we might be obsessed with every nuance, to most people, one steel watch is just like all the others.

I hope not.

I hate when people expect a tip from a person wearing an expensive watch.

This for the win.

Over they years, I received far more comments Gear S2 watch (years ago when it came out) and my Galaxy Note 3 than I have for anything else.

My panerais gets noticed more often then my rolex (in public). Only close friends (who are also WIS) will make any comments about my current rolex choice of the day.

Maybe a couple of times...but it is super rare.

I'd be fine if they did so we can talk watches....Love to hear what others say about their own and why they like them.

Got some oohs and aahs at work yesterday with my BLRO 16710. I doubt they would have noticed a Sub or Sea Dweller but the BLRO stands out. One guy offered me $2k for it on the spot and I just smiled as I shook my head. :)

One of the many things I love about rolex is that it flies under the radar!

I think they notice two tone most of all and the cyclops eye to a lesser extent. 5 digit steel like sub, GMT, new explorer i, steel DJ, standard Milgauss not really.

A lot of those hideous oversized monstrosities from their competitors are more noticeable but oh so tacky. Yuck.
