It doesn’t help that I take horrible photos. But couldn’t help myself…had to post this one.

Thanks, T - I’ve been looking for a simple, platinum dress watch from Lange. And they don’t make many platinum watches anymore.

For the ALS lineup, I have a soft spot for the Lange 1 Moon Phase, but it is just too small for my wrist.

When I looked at Grand Lange, I came to the conclusion that I prefer this clean and crisp (indeed!) design over the GL1 Moon Phase. And in this size, I like the thinness (8.8mm) this GL1 offers. But, both are beautiful no doubt.

This should remain a staple in the stable - a simple, clean dress watch. Kind of like the role the blue blazer plays in my closet.

And the timing worked out as I was just able to scoop this up before the upcoming (and hefty one at that) price hike at ALS, apparently across the board.

I think it’s nice as the date window melts into the dial and it could be a real strap monster with the monotone look. Enjoy it!

I hear ya! Left and bottom are PT but would be too small for you (36mm), right is WG (38.5mm).

Visited the ALS store in Sydney yesterday, I told the SD I'm only looking as I'd never actually managed to see one in real life. Shop was empty but he was a really nice guy. Up front and honest.

We chatted for 20 minutes and he kindly said I could try on 1850 small seconds. One of only three watches available for sale. Plus Two saxonias iirc . Lovely watch but for me slightly too small (and rather too expensive)

But it looked superb

He told me interest in the last 3 years has been unbelievable. Before that all ALS were discounted now it's all by appointment and waiting list.
He also said there is a 20% price hike across the board next month so buyers are trying to jump ahead of that especially the entry level stuff

I said my ultimate grail was the Datograph Perpetual Tourbillon he said afahk they'd never had one in .

Anyhow so pleased to finally manage to see one in the flesh as our nearest AD is Madrid some 3hr flight away

20%?! That seems a real brutal sales tactic then or Lange is losing it… The (1815) entry level pieces are still the ones relatively easy to find and are not exactly flying out of the AD’s like hotcakes….

Lange told me that in the US, prices will increase by an average of 10% on March 20th. It will be interesting to see the model-by-model breakdown.

With 24 month inflation at 15%+ in the US, 25%+ in CEE, it’s not surprising.

I get it there is inflation however I see this as another example of watch manu. Leadership that just doesn’t get it. The market is rolling over, one way to totally extinguish it is massive increases based on the past (Abnormal Covid consumer behavior) and not what’s coming in the future. Oh and one more thing, the steel odysseus is trading at 100% markup so let’s increase the 38mm 1815 that’s the lone model still in the STORE. Fail.

just saw the price list of the newly updated prices.
insane.
i heard lange might cut productions and therefore the price hike levels up the profit margins.

1815 chronograph, a piece i own, now it's 93.3k SGD, 20th March, it will be 112k SGD

lol 20% increase

Bingo. They are clueless.

... would you pay 83K+ taxes USD for a 1815 Chrono when you can get a dato u/d for that or a perpetual dato for just a bit more (secondary of course). I would surely not.

The answer is no which is why the secondary prices will rise.

All makes sense if Richemont is being sold to LVMH. Look at the other brands in the portfolio as well, except for Cartier nothing is really moving. Time to jack up prices and hope a higher offer comes in.

for that 5% of population that is wealthy enough to care less about secondary market

which all lange needs to do to attract to allow them to feel exclusive.

Ah yes, the mythical rich person that isn't good with money. Far fewer than 5% I suspect. Probably 0.01% or less of population.

Their boutiques are graveyards already. SAs texting me with a list of watches available I've never asked out before the price hike. They just don't have the clout to pull it off. I think they screwed up when Patek pricing starts looking like a good deal. Time will tell. I'm happy to be wrong as I do love the brand.
