Wean I say cash I meant a debit card. In my country very few people use paper cash, so here wean people use the term cash it is usually a debit card. I understand the confusion. To me it is normal, I haven't used paper money for several years.

I paid for them. One by one, and strictly only when I could easily afford them.

Perfect answer. Save up little by little and buy it when you can.

Amex for me then I clear the card at the end of the month. I’m always looking for air miles and my annual companion ticket

How did you finance your Rolex?

Me.

All of my watches have been paid cash, except for one.

In 2013 when I bought my Sub C there were huge waiting lists (similar to now). Whether you paid cash, credit card, whatever, there was no discount to be had. If you didn’t pay the full price, then the next on the waiting list would.

The AD offered a 0% finance deal for 24 months. I paid approx a third and took the rest on the deal offered. Why not? They weren’t offering anything else...

Anyway... two years later the last repayment went through. No admin fee, no penalties for late payments (obviously, as I had a direct debit from my bank account) and that was that.

Anyone going to argue with that?

Usually cash unless the AD provides zero percent financing, just be sure to payoff before interest free period expires or interest kicks in retroactively. Financing is usually not available on specialty item ( Daytona, stainless Skydweller....)

I’m in the UK. It was Mappin and Webb in Guildford, Surrey, although they are no longer a Rolex AD.

Many of their other stores across the UK, including London locations, still offer this as far as I’m aware. I don’t know about any restrictions of the finance deal on ss sports models that may have been introduced in recent times what with the shortage.

via paypal using a rewards credit card or the card directly.

then if one of my other cards have a zero bal transfer special (rare nowadays), i do one of those to spread the payment. if no special deal, i pay off the card by the next due date.

No financing available. In 1966 the U.S. Army paid once a month in Cash. We stood in a long line. When you got to the front of the line the Paymaster counted out your after Tax pay right in front of you. All $139.00 in one pile. My 5513 was $ 109.00 at the Frankfort,Germany PX. I paid Cash. Four months later I was in PhuBai,Vietnam.

Credit card then pay it off. Are ADs typically open to cash deals with discount?

Cash, I don’t feel a watch is something you should finance. Those who have mentioned the 0% financing, sure why not but I’d never finance a luxury good if I couldn’t afford it out right.

You spread the cost of an expensive watch over a few tax years at a small interest charge and still have money to invest yearly into something productive instead of losing it all to a watch purchase in one year.
I read twice and don't understand how this has anything even remotely to do with taxes or how non deductable LOC interest is better than any other kind.

Cash. I never get offered financing. Although if they offered 0% APR I'd consider it. Paying interest on a watch is an extraterrestrial amount of stupid.

Like the man said: credit card and pay it off immediately.

"Financing" even at zero interest is not for me. Until completely paid off, it means I don't own the watch. I dislike renting anything too. (Cable boxes, landlines, etc.) Would much rather shell out once and be done with it.) Again, no sense of ownership and the hassle of monthly payments.

Some folks buy high end goods on their CC and make payments over time. I can not fathom the rationale behind operating this way. If you don't have cash-on-hand you cannot afford it. This has been said here a million times but they're literally words to live by.

Mark

Just my opinion.

Through money obtained through a number of shady deals with people that you need to keep your eye on and your back watched.

If someone's stupid enough to offer me free money I'll always take it.

I remember purchasing a Kawasaki Vulcan a few years ago and went marching in with the cash in my pocket. Without even asking the salesman said "so I suppose you are taking advantage of our three years 0‰ interest then"? Well I wasn't until then but a form later I left with the cash and my bike.

Let the DD do its job as I always prefer money in my account over someone elses. With inflation that prob added a 5‰ discount on the price I had already negotiated down to.

Simples... But then thats just my 2 cents

I would add that if anyone chooses to use credit you must be disciplined in the use of money. If you are not good with money DO NOT go down this route for the sake of yourself and your family - debt destroys lives.

If however you ARE disciplined it's simply an avenue to cut the cost a little more. Having access to money, costs money so if someone else wants to take that cost for a couple of years - good on them.

Remeber they are only doing this to pull in those who are potentially not good with money so play the system and don't let it play you. Always make sure you can cover any balance (extremely easily), at any time on top of at least 6 months total living expenses and in my opinion you are all good. This should be "bunce" money and separate to your investmests/pensions etc.

Can't blame anyone for taking free money. Unbelieveable though. I suppose it shifts product no matter who pays for it ..even if actually afforded in manageable chunks. I can't say I agree with it though - There are people with no money driving around in Mercs and with all the trappings of success without actually being (what was traditionally deemed) successful. Warehouse worker or whatever. Team Leader Tony.
