Looks really awesome with a good suit. Will certainly consider it now. Have been looking at the TT but this is really amazing especially with a blue suit.

Good story and enjoy the watch! Like you said engraved the case back, just bear in mind you would probably lose the warranty. I am sure with or without, your mom is always in your heart.

When I was 14, I bought my first quality watch, a Seiko 6139, for 95 dollars. I purchased my first Rolex the year I earned my Navy Pilot’s wings. Of course, it was a GMT. Since then I have owned Daytonas, Explorers, more GMTs, a Sub, a Sea Dweller, a Datejust etc. I had a two tone a couple times, but never… ever… a solid gold Rolex. It became my grail.

Yellow or rose gold is just not for me. To those of you then own them, they are phenomenal watches and wear them in good health. However I have always been really attracted to White Gold. I looked at the DayDate, but fell in love with the WG Sub when it was released a couple years ago. Of course, I’ll never get one, I can’t afford it. I should just be content with Steel watches.

Last fall, I lost my mother. I am an only child and my father died when I was young so we were very very close. Many times, she made me promise that when she was gone, I would buy myself something nice with the inheritance. She suggested a new car. While she knew of my love for fine watches, she never understood it (let’s face it, non-WiSs rarely do) but since it made me happy, she supported it. “Life is short” she always used to say. I considered a car, but honestly would get more enjoyment from obtaining a Gold Rolex.

This morning, I put on a suit and tie (a tradition whenever I buy a new Rolex), went to the AD and got my grail. I am sure my mother approves, she sees the smile on my face from up in heaven. I am going to have her birthday engraved on the back, and every time I look at it I will think of her.
Every Rolex has a story. Yours is special. Congratulations and enjoy that fantastic watch!

Congratulations on your watch! I had to think about your story because you told it so honestly and simply. I'm happy for you too.

My favorite watch. I showed my son as he liked my LN the best. I explained the difference and then showed him your pic. He said, geez, he looks like an important man!

Engraving looks awesome Paul; I’m sorry your mom isn’t here with you this Mother’s Day but I would place a strong wager she’s very proud of her son and smiling for you today and all days.
