I've got one question regarding the Tourbillon. Maybe someone knows the answer: Is the case the same with all versions (steel, titanium, gold)? Have there been changes over time, like with the 4500 vs 4520?

I have been looking for the perfect watch to travel with, for those trips where I only want to take one timepiece, and the steel Dual Time ticks all the boxes.

I have narrowed it down to the black or the silver dial. I know the blue is the most desirable, but I want a dial that works better with different strap colors.
I find the blue not as versatile, especially if I want to dress the watch up with a black strap.

I was able to try on the silver dial, and although I prefer silver dials to black, I am not too crazy about the lighter shade of the date subdial and AM/PM indicator on the silver. I also prefer the red pointers on the black, which is more subdued.

With that being said, what are your thoughts on which of the 2 dials is more versatile?

On a side note, I was at one of the boutiques a few days ago, and they told me that the silver dial is being phased out. Anyone else hear of this?

The silver dial has always been among the least popular color choices, at least according to my boutique.

For me it was clear from day one that I wanted the silver dial, and only that, see my pics below.

I actually like that in the bracelet at first quick glance it may look like a Datejust 41. It flies under the radar, and only when you look closely you discover the complexities of this very intricate design. (I feel much less comfortable traveling with my AP Jumbo for example).

This, together with the beautiful DT function, the quick extension bracelet, and the 150m water resistance, is what makes this to me indeed the ultimate travel watch, and I’ve traveled extensively with it.

But then you have the great strap versatility of top.

On a black rubber strap it is the perfect watch for beach, pool and boats, the black calf leather strap gives it the look of a field watch, and you can dress it up and give it a totally different look on a bespoke alligator strap (I ordered my first in denim blue last fall and I kind of feel Patek stole my design inspiration this spring…).

It is truly “one of not many”. Particularly if the rumors that you mentioned are true and they will fade it the color out.

But you should simply buy what appeals to you personally, it sounds like the black dial is your color of choice and I’m sure you will be very happy with that model.

Thank you for your insight and the pictures. I agree on all you said about why it is the ultimate travel watch!

The blue gator with silver dial looks awesome

I love the blue dial 4500 as a great travel resort watch. Dual time would be great too

All the tourbs are model number 6000; so even the newest titanium has the same model and thus I am inclined to say no case shape movement differences.

While the 4520 is a different model number and case

Thank you.

And compared to prices I see at AP for example, the prices for the custom straps at the VC boutiques are really reasonable.

You can customize everything, even the inside stitching color, and have your initials printed. I highly recommend this to every 3rd gen OS owner.

Oh nice! You got a customer OEM gator.

When I mounted the gator on the watch, it seemed that the straps flared out too much.

The gator seemed too stiff, or perhaps my wrist was too small.

How stiff was the custom gator relative to the OEM gator?

I never got the original alligator. VC had switched from alligator to calf some time ago, supposedly for environmental reasons, I rather assume simple cost cutting.

The calfskin is very comfortable. The custom alligator was a bit stiff in the beginning but now is actually quite comfortable.

How does the stiffness of the Vagenari strap compare to the OEM rubber strap?

I found the OEM rubber flare out more than the calfskin that came with the watch. They are both stiff but the calfskin leather gives a little more after a while and it is slightly shorter and I can get better fit. Is the Vagenari more flexible than the OEM rubber? Fo you see similar flare out or no so much?

I agree unless you have 7.5” wrists, the flare is noticeable on the stiffer straps.

The vagenari maybe slightly less stiff than OEM rubber. I have the baby blue (not offered color) and orange (no longer offered). I am a fan.

There is another 3rd party maker of OEM -like rubber straps that have terrible fitment at the case…. Big gap

Ok got it; yeah the OEM gator starts out very stiff; I did not try to break it in yet.

Very tempted with this. How does it wear compared to the 5500v or the 4500v if you've tried those before?

I currently have a 4500v that wears well but really tempted by this.

The one I posted is the 5500v. I've had both the 4500v and the 7900v. It wears a bit bigger at 42.5mm of course, but still very graceful and quite comfortable.

The wrist presence is bolder than the other Overseas, not garrish though. Definitely not chunky like a Panerai or Omega. On the strap it hugs the wrist. I find the contrast of the strap more flashy than the bracelet. The bracelet is superb, more slouchy like jewelry.

To me, a Rolex analog for fit would be the DJII smooth bezel.

Whats the market like these to get a Rose Gold Green Dial Overseas 4520V (3 hander) from a boutique/AD. Is it like 3-5 year like before or some BS about purchase history etc?
