Awesome Ken!! TRF should offer a watch rotation system - swap watches for a few weeks with each other to go how one gets on with an unfamiliar brand before taking the plunge with our hard earned. Most of us here seem to go to some length to protect our watches in daily use, so I reckon it could work!

That would mean displacing his 5110P and 5980/1R....since I'd be very surprised if the 5970 and 5070 shifted out of the 1 & 2 spots.

It is one of my favorite Lange's top 3 along with new RG Dato and RG Double Split.

5970 and 5070 always top 2 for me unless someone gifts me a 2499 or RG 5004 w black dial.

Stop it! Had to visit the AD because of this thread and try on a RG Lange 1 - love it. Tried on Saxonia and a couple of Calvatara's and also the Cellini's. I liked the Date Cellini as it was thicker than the Time. PP was the least visually impressive, but perhaps the most on the mind (I think you'll know what I mean). Lange 1 was the winner though just got save up. Actually went to drop the Navitimer off for 5 year service, but great excuse to try on a few pieces.
PS: almost forgot in my excitement I also tried on a S140G-001, wow! I still preferred the Lange 1 over it though.

Love Lange but they really need to have applied numerals on their three handers and the 1815 chrono and up/down to match FPJ. Thats the least they can do as you can get the PT Chonometre Soverain with solid gold movt and dial for a few thousand more than a WG 1815 U/D

I love the 1815 Chrono, but also wonder why no applied numerals? Otherwise it's an awesome specimen.

The 1815 chrono is diffenately a very nice watch. While the Dato has the applied markers, I think it's simply an economic decision on Lange's part not to use applied numerals on the 1815. Given that the 1815 uses essentially the same movement as the Dato (less the big date), I think the effort was to create a similar chrono at a somewhat lower price point. By using the same movement as their flagship chrono, using paint on numerals, eliminating the date complication, allowed for the creation of a very nice, affordable chrono that could be enjoyed by a larger audience. IMO, they hit the mark.

I agree. I have the money to buy a Dato, but ended up with the 1815 Chrono because it is a lot cheaper. I got the older version with the pulsation markers and with the printed Arabic hour markers, really gives the watch a vintage classic feel. With the money saved, I was able to fund the majority of the purchase cost of a Lange 1.

I actually prefer no date as it's easier to set when I switch up the rotation. And it's a couple mm thinner than the dato, which for me and my girly wrists is a big deal.
I'm hoping they weren't concerned with saving at most $2k on an already $40K timepiece just by printing the dial vs lovely gold applied numerals.
I was actually thinking its either part of the 1815 historical look and feel, and/or a method to shave another 0.5mm off the case thickness (since the 30-min chrono and constant seconds hands are sunken into the dial).
It's still very much on my radar as I decide which chrono to get to replace the two I just sold (JLC and IWC). The dato is awesome and an icon, but with no date and 2+mm thinner, plus my preference for Arabic numerals vs roman, the 1815 is currently winning the ALS battle.

I'm about to dive into the research of the older L951 based model vs current. I love the RG with black dial, but assume Lange won't release it again for a while due to the new Dato. RG/black release.
Have you done the comparison? Price seems to be similar, and 0.5 case width difference. Anything else?

I think you are right that the printed Arabic numbers might be the intended look. The 1815 Tourbillon also has the printed numbers and that is a very expensive piece ($164K to $201K USD list) to not have applied markers.
