At my workplace, I did realise that submariner is one of the most common watch. The second would be DJ watches. I am weird and don’t like to be same, so I buy watches which is rarely seen among my social circle to stand out. But that’s me! Being weird haha!

I'm an expat living in Romania. I see them on others every single time I go out for dinner and every single day on my own wrist :)

Agree with the sentiments on it depending on location, but that “everywhere” is a gross overstatement.

A lot of “old money” here, so I notice a lot of young guys wearing DJ’s that were clearly passed down from parents or grandparents.

Yes-if you only had one watch, it would be hard to beat as first choice.

Like a $3 bill.

Most showcases, at least the ones I frequent, are devoid of SS. I did see a lone Milgauss recently. Other than than, nada.

No, of course not.

The problem is that we have a few people here that read "subs are everywhere" literally, so... well, you know. That's how you get to 400 posts.

Depends. At the office part of my job I never see one or a Rolex of any kind. It's kind of an austere environment. In the field I do see them from time to time. On working boats (research and fishing). And on other photographers.

That depends on your definition of "find." If you mean they are hard to find in the cases of most ADs, the answer is yes, they are currently hard to find. If you mean hard to find in the gray market, the answer is no, but you'll have to pay a premium for them, especially if you want unworn. If you mean hard to find on people's wrists in the wild, it evidently depends on your location. A number of people here - myself included - rarely see them while out and about. Others see them frequently.

I see countless Rolex every day in Copenhagen. The ones I see most are probably DJs as they are worn alot by both men and women. The ones I see most on men are Subs (of all kinds: 5-digit, ceramic, 2-tone etc.)

I have seen probably 10 BLNRs and 5 LVCs in the wild during the last year which I think is quite many, so they are clearly not that rare

I see many others too, but in general I would say "Rolex is everywhere" more than just subs

Never seen as many subs out and about as right now. It's a flood and it will die down soon.

LOL. So I wouldn’t be able to score one visiting my nearest Rolex? They have them on the “grey market” online. Thoughts? Thanks

I don't think they are everywhere. I think those that see multiples daily to and from work are forgetting about the sheer amount of people that are in their field of vision. Hundreds? Thousands? It could easily be that many for one who commutes using subway, etc...

I've seen maybe a handful in 3 years.

It really does matter where you are.

IMHO, I also think that some feel if they spend $8k+ on a watch, they would rather not see it again in the wild. They see a few and all of a sudden... they are everywhere.

Pretty much zero chance of scoring one at your nearest Rolex Authorised Agent.

Go see this man. No personal experience but gray market resellers don't come more highly recommended. Based in Orlando

I'll typically see at least 2-3 per day just in my office complex/on the street/in the airport. It's one of the main reasons I didn't buy a Sub.

There are obviously millions of them out there. How often you see them just depends on where you live - it sounds like there are a lot of people who are located in LCOL areas chiming in with "I never see subs except on my on wrist!" Well... duh

Here in DC and in my travels, I see genuine subs every day. Now, if you include copies of sub design, absolutely everywhere I look.

Thanks for the info. So the warranty follows the watch even though not purchased through AD?

If it is not a date-just it is usually a Submariner or black GMT where I live.
I have only seen one Hulk in the wild though, other than mine.

Now that I think of it my priest wears a 5 digit Sub. He likes to have a few beers or scotch with the guys every now and then, so I will ask him about it next time we meet casually.

The majority of Americans live in rural areas or suburbs--not close to big cities/resort areas where it's been my experience you see many more Submariners.

What makes the "Sub" so common is also because it has so many product lines that look similar with Sub Date, DSSD, SD and it has been around for almost 60 years. Sure it has been said in this thread but anyway.

Submariner is popular for a reason - because it is a great watch. This is not a false representation like some other models that are popular simply because they are hard to get. If you love watches, you should have a Submariner in your collection.

These are refreshing perspectives. This thread underscores the irony that nothing has challenged my appreciation for my watch more than being on a Rolex enthusiasts' forum, where a significant portion of its members make it a practice to bash the very model that got me into the brand in the first place.
