I was 40 when I got my first Rolex, a YM40 116622. The sticker shock held me back with its predecessor 10 years earlier.

I had to raise three kids and put them through school and had to buy a fleet of cars. Finally got around to buying a SD43 for my 50th, then got the Rolex bug and bought a few more in a span of a couple of years after that.
I’ve been wanting the Sea Dweller since I was paging through National Geographic magazines as a kid. The Sea Dweller was born 2 years before me, so we kind of grew up together. It was fitting that I buy the 50th anniversary Sea Dweller for my 50th birthday. |

Continued the tradition with my daughter when she turned 21 just a couple of years ago. |

Was 27 when I bought my first Rolex, a oyster perpetual date , black dial 36mm, in Hong Kong in August 1981, wore that watch everyday for almost 38 years before I sent it for service mostly because the bracelet was failing , movement was running perfectly well !
Still have it ! |

42 years young - Submariner Date from an AD after waiting 141 days on their list. In reality, I’d been waiting 42 years for the watch. My father was gifted a meters first Submariner when he graduated high school in 1966. I grew up admiring that watch and always begged my parents for a Rolex when I graduated high school lol no such luck. My Dad introduced me to all the original James Bond movies when I was quite young, and that’s when the obsession really gathered steam. When my father passed away in 2016, my older brother got the watch. I explained all of this to my AD and like to think it helped me get the watch sooner than I otherwise would have.

I’ve commented on this before … 27 or 28 can’t remember exactly. Now at 36 … been through almost every Rolex family and have found my must stays and must haves. Looking forward to my 40th Birthday watch in 4 years.

22yo--New from AD. Air-King with engine turned bezel. Originally wanted a Sub but tried it on like 5 different times and just hated how big it was as I had very small wrists.
Bought my 2nd Rolex a few months ago (YM40 from an AD) at age 46. |

23 years old. Graduated university and completed an expedition to the Northwest Passage. Had previously been to both the Antarctic and Arctic. Got an Explorer I. Had it engraved on the back with the polar expeditions I have been on and the dates.

At 17 I almost bought one in Bermuda, but did not have enough money, 17 years later a zero was added and I bought my first, a 1503 14K gold 34mm Date… It is my wife's today.

Aged 23, back when you could buy anything (except the Daytona) without waiting from the AD.
I bought a discontinued Explorer 114270, having considered a Submariner 5513 and GMT 16710 too. Wish I'd bought them all! |
