TT is seen as a dressy watch, and whats been popular are sport utility watches, which would be made of steel. Its also cultural as Western worlds dislike gold jewelry. As Asia continues to grow the premium/discount of SS vs TT will shrink, thou that could take many years.

That blue TT Sub is the most beautiful watch. It still takes my breath away so much so.....I am taking out my Serti dial and putting back the classic blue dial. "They dont make them like that any more" applies to my reasoning. If I have to explain why that color combo is damn good, you wont understand.
There is a antique gun appraiser that makes a regular appearance on the tv show "Pawn Stars" on the History Channel. He wears a TT Blue Sub and it jumps right out of the hi-def TV every time he is on.. The watch pops on camera like a rock star.

I love tt watches. I don't own a rolex tt yet but the blue sub will make it in the collection. Sometimes, gold is too much and ss is a bit dull.

This TT didn't last long at all on the secondary market. When it was posted for sale here I snapped it up.

The only Rolex's I really love are Submariners. I have two of them and one is the TT blue. It is my favorite watch. Something about that blue and gold out on the boat in the Florida sun makes me stare at it.

If I could afford an all gold sub I would have one, then again if I could afford one then that would mean my financial position would be elevated and it would fit me more. But right now if I wore an all gold watch people in my circle would think I got it stolen or it was fake. LOL

They already wonder how I have 2 Rolex's as it is. My answer is pretty straight forward. I buy them 2nd hand and each one costs as much as 3 tanks of gas in my boat. Somehow that puts it into perspective perfectly.

I didn't know this implied that I must be a Grandfather, I still live in the 80s and I am advertising that I can't afford a full gold Rolex.

I'd say because it's either I go for SS or Gold.

The in between isn't favored because it's more of an polar extreme choice.

TT was extremely popular in tne 60's,70's and 80's. same with YG. In the last 10 to 20 years yellow gold, other than for women, has fallen largely out of fashion. I own several YG watches but that is a rarity amongst men I know. It's not a money issue as many of these people do own Platinum or White Gold watches. In some ways it's very similar to the 1920's when white metal was more popular. I think it just swings with the times. In Asia and parts of Europe this does not seem to be the case as you see more people wearing both TT and YG watches. At the end of the day you buy what you like and it seems many just don't like TT as much anymore. It's a cycle. One day it will be popular again.

I have an1166 TT blue,the hulk,the new blue yacht master and an 1166 TT black GMT master 11,
The last two days my condition is worsening as I am jonseing for a SS black .Its an illness much like a narcotic and if you are truly addicted you will stop at nothing to get your next roles fix.....
Seriously each piece has an appropriate time and place to be worn. I had an all gold 166 sub I recently sold as it got no wrist time ,I just felt like Guido wearing it. Can you hum V o l a r e wo ho V o l a r e wo ho ho ho...
The TT blue is as in your face as I ever want to wear and even that is a bit of a faceslap and pretentious piece in a world where people work hard to raise families and dream about a Rolex one day,that's why I bought the yacht master ,at first glance or to the uneducated it looks like a $250 SS watch with a blue face
I see the Beauty in the watches and buy them to impress me ,not to project an image for others ,which is why I need the plain Jane SS black as an every day working mans Rolex

I owned a TT GMT for about a week until my wife and 2 of my assistants called it an old mans watch.... Swapped it for an all gold GMT ii.. Loving it!

I was going to buy a SS Daytona white dial, but fell in love with the TT panda dial straight away after seeing it. No regret whatsoever. When it comes to buy watches, i guess you'd have to follow your heart, when it comes to buy shares, you go with your brain.

In my opinion, TT represents the Classic mode, for Rolex, along with their trusty SS versions. Buying up to Platinum IMO is more 'pretentious' than going with the 'classic' TT's.
Those that want the 'bling' may go the Platinum route... - To each their own..!
If TT's were so 'pase' ... Rolex probably wouldn't continue that 'line'.
It Sells...and continues to be popular...-since so many on here, have TT's, in one model or an other...Because it IS...!
