^ I think that color of dial looks the best on the Airking. I am eventually going to swap the blue for this shade of color.

Silver dials on the 5500s seem to be less problematic. Blue dials and to a lesser extent black would chop near the tritium plots due to a reaction with the paint. 14000s on didn't have this issue.

I'm getting forgetful. Could you guys remind me: What was the standard size for most Air Kings, Oyster Perpetuals, DayJusts, etc. in the '60 and '70 (before the "big watch" fad got started)? Was it 34mm? And was the Exp. 1016 34mm or 36mm?
Thanks. |

AK and OPs 34. DJ and most Explorers (but not all) 36mm

My air king actually belonged to my grandfather. Purchased it in the early 2000's but never wore it as he preferred a Cartier he had. He gave it to me about a year ago and even though initially i thought it was a bit small i have really grown to love it. I am seriously thinking about purchasing a 19 mm jubilee bracelet as i really like the look maybe even a dial change (quite like the blue 3-6-9). Anyone here have a picture of their air king on a jubilee?
P.S Sorry for the crap iPhone pictures |

Here's mine. For years while I was fantasising about getting a Rolex I always thought I would go for one of the sport models but when the time to look seriously, I fell for the classic good looks of the Air King. Now I can't imagine having anything else. I like the fact that the styling doesn't scream, "LOOK... I'M A ROLEX" but leaves no doubt as to it's elegance (shame about the wearer but I can't do much about that). In summary, what a brilliant watch.
