It will be worth only what someone is willing to pay for it. If money were no object, I would go the 70,000 easily

Wonder what it takes money wise and/or approval red tape wise to get Rolex to approve something like this...assuming the police went through proper channels?

The "Octopus" is real. Here is an example that sold at Christie's in Geneva.
http://www.christies.com/lotfinder/w...tails.aspx#top It sold for 57K CHF. I have seen them trade as high as 80K. They are highly sought after. Here are the Lot notes: Lot Description Rolex. A rare stainless steel limited edition automatic wristwatch with sweep centre seconds, date and bracelet, made for the 50th anniversary of the Sommozzatori of Italy's Polizia di Stato Signed Rolex, Oyster Perpetual Date, Sea-Dweller, 4000ft=1220m, Polizia di Stato, Sommozzatori, 1958 - 2008, Ref. 16600, case no. V314925, manufactured in 2008 Cal. 3135 nickel-finished lever movement, 31 jewels, black dial, luminous dot, baton and dagger numerals, luminous mercedes hands, sweep centre seconds, window for date, octopus emblem surrounded by the inscription Polizia Di Stato Sommozzatori, tonneau-shaped water-resistant-type case, revolving black bezel calibrated for 60 units, screw back engraved Rolex Oyster Original Gas Escape Valve and Polizia Di Stato Sommozzatori 1958 - 2008, screw down crown, stainless steel Rolex Oyster bracelet, case, dial and movement signed 40 mm. diam. |

Just found out about this model. The price is outlandish but I can see this doing very well in the auction scene (hence the Christie's reference).
This is also where I have chosen to put my first post o.0 |
