To me and my small 61/2" wrist, 39mm or 40mm is perfect. My GMT 2C fits perfectly. Another factor besides wrist size, is the width of the bracelet or band. My 40mm Concord Saratoga with a 25mm wide gator strap looks larger than my GMT. My 36mm Omega Constellation Double Eagle with a TT 24mm bracelet looks as big as the GMT.

To me every watch has a personality and size is part of that. I enjoy 36mm in my OQ and Explorer, 40mm in the GMT's and Subs and the Pam 88 makes a statement all it's own. If the watch design is propotional (sp?) I like it regardless of size.

You'll get a million different answers here....because it depends on the individual.
For me, 36mm and 40mm are perfect...nothing larger than 40mm for me! |

We really need an external opinion on this question.. my vote is 40mm but the guy in the image could be thinking different...

There is no one perfect size.
It depends on two things. Your wrist shape and size and The case profile on said wrist. I think the reason the DSSD looks so big isn't b/c it is 41mm, it is because it sits very high on most wrists and the strap doesn't compliment it. I've tried on a B&R that was 46mm and it was GY-NORM-US on me. Look totally out of place. I also tried on a 45.5mm Blancpain Fifty Fathoms and was quite surprised by how "small" it looked. Didn't feel like a big watch at all. You just need to try it on and ask yourself. The fit, combined with the look, determines if the watch is too big.

I have a 7 3/8" wrist and a 44mm PAM looks pretty big on me but I'm 6'4" tall and it seems to be OK. So, I think your overall size has a great deal to do with how the watch "fits" about as much as your wrist size does.
Another factor is "fashion/style." Women are now wearing large watches. Because of that, my 5'2" wife has no problem wearing a 40mm watch. But, if she's the only one then I can guarantee it won't happen! She'll quickly go back to her Cartier Panther. |

For me it would be 37-39mm depending on the layout/bezel. My 39mm IWC pilot actually wears bigger than my Explorer II (which according to JJ's measurements is also 39mm, but by some accounts is actually 40) because it has no bezel. I'd have preferred that in 38 for example. My 38mm PP Aquanaut is the perfect size on me. If Rolex upped the Exp. 1 to 37.5mm (so as not to lose any of the watch's wonderful proportions) I'd have bought that.

Rolex makes just 3 sports watches in WHITE dials - Daytona, Milgauss and Exp-II. You might get tired of looking at BLACK dials all the time......so the WHITE is a refreshing change. You won't be disappointed. JJ

38mm I think is perfect for a dress watch, and 40mm for everything else.

I'll have to agree with JJ. A 39mm would be perfect. However, that being said until Rolex comes out with a 39mm datejust I'll go with the 36mm.Tudor makes a 38mm classic date thats beautiful. I'm thinking roadtrip to Canada to see if I can get one there...

40mm should fit anyone provided lug-to-lug is 48mm and height around 13mm or so.
I wear the Sinn EZM-3 (41mm) and a few vintage milwatches. Just getting into Rolexes - can't wait. Incoming 14060M Non-COSC and GMT II 16710 Coke!! To add to what's been said, I think it depends on the diameter of the dial and whether there's a bezel at all. For example, I've got a Lemania Single Button military issue at 38mm that *looks* bigger than the Sub at 40mm. The Lemania has no bezel so the dial is larger. But then again, the EZM-3 at 41.3mm looks smaller than the Sub...who knew? |

really does depend on my mood ...the only 'big' watch I have is the PAM104...and it would not be my choice for an only watch....but it is there for when the mood takes me...and it is o right when it does
Current GMT2C is the perfect watch for me in terms of size and everyday

JJ,
Great topic! I find the Milgauss case to be perfectly designed to fit the wrist challenged (myself) and those with large bones (that just sounds wrong). The Milgauss case "flows" on the wrist better in my opinion than the DJII. The bracelet even looks better on the Millie as it is proportioned better. The DJII wears more "flat" and does not feel a part of the wrist as does the Millie. If the Millie only had a date, I would have kept it. Cheers! |
