Im not a hater of the Daytona, I just dont prefer it, though it is a beautiful timepiece.
I much prefer Rolex, DJ/DD, Subs, and the GMT's over the Daytona. Truth be told I much prefer the Omega Speedmaster Professional over the Daytona. It has an incredible history and is every bit as good as the Rolex IMO. I dont feel a Daytona is 3-5 times the watch the Speedy is, though its price says it is. I know it has an in house movement, which adds to its cost Im sure. I just feel that $10K USD+ for a stainless watch is a little much. You could have 2 Subs for that, and maybe a used DJ too. The more Rolex's the better! |

I'm pretty new to TRF, but have been browsing quite extensively on here for the past couple of weeks. Certainly can't say that I have notice any hate going on for the Daytona. Personally, I am not in the market for a Daytona, nor do I know much about them. The chronograph functions are fine, and I really do like the way the Daytona has the screw-down push buttons, a feature not seen on many chronos. I would love an all Everrose one with black dial, though!
I think a lot of watch fanatics have a bit of a practical side to them, like me. If I don't have a use for the chrono functions, I won't get the watch. I did own one - a Breitling Limited Edition Avenger Skyland Blacksteel - but I sold it, with the push buttons it just seemed like too much watch for me, and although it looked cool it just didn't suit me. Of course, on the other hand it could be said that I also have an impractical side I just bought a Milgauss as my first Rolex. And I kind of doubt whether I will be in any areas of mass magnetization. However, I do like all the innovations the watch has, especially in the construction of the case and the movement. Place it looks damned good! I do think the Daytona is a fine looking watch as well! Cheers, Carl

If you can admire the craftsmanship of a fine tool, then you can admire the craftsmanship of a fine watch..
The Daytona has that craftsmanship in the details used in their one-of-a-kind movement, traditional sub seconds at 6, screw locks for the pushers (which are not really necessary), Triplock crown, and the original sleek and stylish billet clasp.. It is an excellently crafted watch... like it's looks or not.

I don't hate it but I don't like it enough to buy one. The tach engraving gives it a busy look. I have a Seamaster chrono with a rotating bezel that is at least functional. As for the chrono function I find it very useful. I now have a Breitling Aerospace I call my "cooking watch." Every watch should have a countdown timer for those of us who cook on the grill and read at the same time!

I'll get one eventually but the DSSD was what brought me over to Rolex.

that's personal preference..there's a lot of people who hate and love daytona..some think it's too expensive, some doesn't like the looks, and some can't live without the date and a lot of people don't use the chrono.. The sub and gmt is more of everybody's watch. everybody likes it.It's more practical i think and better for daily use and it's more worth the money.Just my 2 cents...Daytona is just over priced coz there are more demands than supply..

Price doesn't have anything to do with whether something floats your boat or not. It wouldn't matter to me if the Daytona were the lowest priced watch in the line up, I've never had any interest in wearing one. But then I don't hate the Daytona, in fact, I like the old Paul Newman Daytona. The current model doesn't do much of anything for me. |

It's probably because it's so snooty, with all the celebrities wearing it and whatnot, not to mention the fact that it's a monstrously ugly abomination of a watch.

$10k or more for a smallish SS chrono with no date is over-priced. But I wanted one anyway, as it is a good-looking, fashionable watch with a good recognition factor. And it will in all likelihood, hold most if not all of its value due to the relative rareness. I rarely wear it, but I'm not sorry to have bought it. I like Zenith chronos better, and they see most of the wrist time.
