Congrats! I think you've been mislead by these opinions though. The reality is that you will own BOTH before too long. At least, that's been my experience!!!

The YM is a beautiful watch but the GMT IIc is both attractive and functional.

It is a tough choice between the two, but I am sure that you will be quite happy with the YM. I will admit that I find the YM to be suitable for all occasions. Sporty and dressy, stealthy since it doesn't scream Rolex, versatile with the bi-directional bezel and there's something about the lume against the platinum dial.
