x2 I also agree that Rolex they make watches for big cooperations and powerful politicians. They made 1 back in the 60's for Chairman Mao.

Someone told me a story once about the Navy Seal reunion, all the retired SEALS that came received a custom Rolex where, in place of the crown at the 12 o'clock, sat the Navy Seal logo. Not sure if it was true or not.

I'd like to have the crown logo on the dial removed on all my Rolex purchases if it was available. After living in countries with monarchy... sweden britain norway I've realised royals are parasites and I don't want any crown-logo reminding me of that.

But since it costs our government 500,000 to train 1 NAVY SEAL, I could see them dropping some serious cash on a limited, one of a kind custom Rolex for the retirees...

2000 SEALS on the planet today... 500,000 to train each one... what is that... 10,000,000,000 dollars spent training our current Navy Seals... and I was told that was about 3% of our Navy's budget.

Thats a high price tag, but those guys are the best of the best. Ive got only the utmost respect for them and all of our armed forces. They all deserve rolexes for their service if you ask me!

I wouldn't mess with either one of them. My uncle is a retired Seal, still has his original SEAL Sub no date, and he said that even the Marines would give them wide berth, they thought the SEALS were a little, shall we say, crazy.

BTW, I have tried many times to offer money to buy his watch, he said it's not coming off till he's not with us anymore. I hope I get it in his will, but it will probably go to his son. Oh well. He also can tell a damn good tale as to what they did. I think the Marines were right, they were mental!

It's not as if the gold and diamond models have some amazing purity of design or art to them eithemost people think that they are revoltingly tacky - so it's a mystery what they think they are protecting.

You state this as if it's a fact, but this is your opinion only. Even if 99% of the members here agree, you do know that this is but a tiny part of the Rolex buying universe, and not a representative one, at that?
Beauty is the eye of the beholder / one mans meat is another mans poison etc.

I detest PCL so it follows that I really don't like gold / diamonds on a watch for a male (fine for a woman but I have never, ever understood a man wanting diamonds, just personal opinion though and I mean no offence whatsoever) as I personally prefer a more subtle look. I remember a fews years ago, visiting is a certain watch brands boutique (not ROLEX) and the AD showed me a watch that was meant to be a "divers" watch, however it was covered in diamonds. I asked if I could see the "mens" version of the watch without the diamonds and he said it was intended for a man, I just thought "oookkkk, strange, that is for a MAN".

Jumping on a BMW R 1200 GS or doing some mountaineering with a gold diamond encrusted (insert brand name) just really doesn't work for me as an image.

But that is just my personal taste and there is no right or wrong, good or bad: people should just do what makes them happy.

friend if the marines thought the SEALS were crazy they've gotta be mad!!

onea my neighbours & most trusted friends is an ex-USA marine & he's crazy!
he challenged me to a drunken arm wrestle once (& he simply wouldn't take "no" for an answer) & due to his "can't lose?"/"do or die?"/"mind over matter?" mentality/training? I ended up almost ripping his bicep clean off the bone before he conceded!!

He couldn't lift so much as a bottle o'beer for three months!!!

I slept with one eye open those twelve weeks in case he crept in through my window & vulcan-death-grip-ninja-death-starred me in the middle of the night or something?!

but whatever it is with all those guys & every serviceman & woman out there.....
they do what they do to keep us & ours safe ........
& i & mine salute, respect & admire them for it.
