Thanks!
(By the way, I just re-read my post and realized it sounded like I was saying that I am a great photographer...far from it! What I probably should have added was that I have a D90 but really don't know what the heck I'm doing...but I'm trying to learn. Sorry if that came across arrogant. |

Thanks! I really appreciate the kind words. That's one of my favorite shots (sorry it's not Rolex-related, however I just recently got back into the fold and have had my camera for about a year and a half. Hopefully will get some LV shots soon).

I think the Canon G10 works pretty well...........Above, and below the water.

It is easy. Fortunately, the camera is the least important factor or you could just throw money at equipment and get excellent results. A simple point and shoot with macro will produce excellent pictures. The great pics you have seen on here are the result of the skill of the photographer, not the camera used. Instead of focusing on cameras, learn about subject, lighting, composition, exposure and post processing first.

A good macro lense always helps - but you're right, it's the "skill" not the equipment~!

Lighting is more important than the camera, get a small light box and clean the watch well before shooting.
I prefer to use a small P&S in Macro mode instead of my DSLR with Macro lens. Canon S90 or Panasonic LX3 are both great for Macros. The LX3 is better for close ups than the S90 but less versatile overall. |

See, TRF photog Kyle agrees with me.
That's one of the reasons I love my bay window. Ten AM or even late afternoon on a weekend is a fun time to take some shots. I would -as others recommended - get a Tripod and a cable or wireless release. I need to do likewise so I don't have to sift through so many shaky cam / blurry shots! |

Go full frame!! My vote is a Nikon D700 or D3S, if not a D300S willl be great. A good prime lens such at the 50mm AFS which is a awsome lens and can use it for more that macro photography. Give cool looking Bokeh too. But as someone said earlier, its not the camera but the photographer who makes the ptotograph. |

Kyle, do you use the kit lens with the Rebel? Or have you purchased a macro lens?

I use an old Canon Ixus compact camera in macro mode, works pretty good. Would really like to try a DSLR camera though, for the extreme close-ups.

If you don’t mind, here some question for you.. 1. Do you use Macro lens of you just use the kit lens that came with it? 2. Which mode is your favorite for taking those wonderful pictures of your collection? 3. Do you use tripod? Any tips you can give me about the Rebel I’d much appreciate. |

1. I just use the kit lens that comes with it, but if you reverse the lens around you can get really close up to the watch. 2. I use manual mode on the camera, no flash. 3. I do use a tripod, otherwise my shots would be blurry. Hope this helps. |

Composition of the subject in the photo is important and learn how to use your camera. Also, I use Photoshop to edit but Picasa 3 is a great and free editing software. Good luck! |
