Well he did not cut your hand off and take your watch, so the lesson learned here is do not go into a MC/biker bar with your Rolex on.

Exactly, I would not have even said it's a Rolex. I would have simply stated "Thank You" and moved on. All you need is some other guy walking buy to hear you conversation and jump you when you walk outside. I don't think I have ever told anyone the price of any watch I own, not even close friends.

I ride and own 1 Rolex and 1 Harley. In that enviroment $5000 is BIG money , unless it is something for the Harley and even then $5 large is $5 LARGE! How loud were you talking?
All about the attitude!Think before talk.Good.

I think your comment may have come off as snobbish. Just say, 'thanks.'

Given the "FTW 81," in the OPs sig, I'm assuming he's a member, prospect or supporter. I haven't spent enough time around HAMC to have any idea how the comment was intended or received. In other environments, I'd respond like the other posters... "Thanks."

+1,000.

It's bad enough of the perceptions some have about Rolex and it's owners...that only adds to the perception...

I've never been to a motorcycle club, so I won't judge what you said given that environment.

Anywhere else, and all I would have said was "Thanks!"

Now where getting closer, I guess it was an unfair question.

I spend half my life in a business enviroment, finance and investment, where exactly the response would be "Thanks"

The same response in another enviroment, where many would never enter and where I spend a lot of time, would be considered weak.

The watch would never be taken off my wrist, for numerous reasons.

The response I gave is intended to be brash and, some may say, crass but it is exactly what is expected in the situation. There are no subtleties or niceties, you state your case and to hell with the consequenses.

"Thanks are you into watches?" would get you a smack in the mouth and then you loose the watch or at the very least a queer look.

Exactly...your reply was WAAAY too soft. First you tell him the price, then you smash his face into the bar, break a chair over his back, and leave him in a heap on the floor.

Then you grab his woman and ride off on his bike.

He'll think twice before messing with another member of the "Watch Gang" in the future!

Got it, the thread was basically to get to this point to tell us about the "rough place" you hang out in?

You could have said - for those of us that don't hang out in places where "nice watch" is a challenge to the size of their man parts, that a "thank you" would have gotten you shanked!
We could have gotten to the funny "knifed him", "watch gang" comments much earlier in thread.

Now, there are much more fun answers in my head but I will keep them there...since this is a public forum.

Nice Watch!
-Pete

"thanks"

That's what I would have said...

I would perhaps had added, "are you interested in watches?"

Price bomb, no.

I can't understand why anybody would like to put them self in a position like that.

Why would anyone want to hang out at a place or with people where you feel you cannot act as yourself???

I was always told it's the quiet ones that you have to watch out for. The loud ones are just full of hot air.
