I severely dislike yellow gold, but I like blue more than I dislike gold, and there is no way I can currently afford a 116619, so TT for me it is. Oh, age is 33.

I know the feeling. I bought the 116613-BLSO because I like the blue also, and I didn't see the point on spending more on the all white gold version.

I also liked the blue with yellow gold and steel combo more so than the white gold only version. It is making a nice everyday watch that I don't have to worry about damaging constantly, whereas I wouldn't want to wear the white gold version all the time for fear of dinging it by mistake...

I don't like the all yellow gold subs at all though. As others have said, it is purely personal preference. Certainly any yellow gold on a watch often advertises a higher price than white gold or steel, but I just don't like how the all yellow gold versions look. Yellow gold Day Dates OTOH, I think look nice, but they do advertise their expense.

I also don't like the YG Daytonas, though I like the WG and TT ones. I think my next watch will be a WG Daytona with the Silver Arabic dial and red hands.

I should qualify my statements by saying, I don't like the watches I mentioned above when the bracelets and the oyster are both yellow gold. I do like the right mix of yellow gold and leather strap though...

Gold will always be timeless. I personally like WG but RG and YG work for me too! YG is classic and will always be in style.

it's more of a taste thing for me. a dress watch on leather strap - yellow gold looks good. a rolex sports watch - prefer stainless, white gold or platinum. now if we're talking twotone, then i think old fart's watch.

Guess it's a matter of personal taste, and what goes on your wrist should be entirely up to you.
I am in the same boat as you. When I was 18 my first watch was a gold watch and I wore it proudly. Also, when I was a kid the watch I always associated Rolex with was the gold President. Now that I am older (35) I really like the SS watches. I get more use out of them and can wear them with virtually anything and not feel over or under-dressed. This will probably change in a few years and I will be back to yellow gold.

I'm old but I don't like gold on a sports watch.

So it's not an age thing but more on personal preferrence.

I'm in the market for a day-date and I really like the yellow gold one but, I'm 26 yrs old and might look a little ostentatious wearing a yellow gold watch, so I guess I will just look out for the while gold versions. What are your opinions on a young guy my age wearing yellow gold watch?

From personal experience, it's very difficult to pull off. The sad truth is, you're screwed either way. Those who notice and think the watch is fake (most people) will think you're a poseur. Those who notice and assume the watch is real will think "daddy's money". It's like seeing a college student driving an S500 or 7-Series, it raises eyebrows, but mostly for the wrong reasons. I bought a DD at 24, and the watch seemed to blend in better if I was wearing a suit or something similar, so I think I may have avoided the "fake" accusation somewhat. However, it's very difficult to pull off the watch from a casual standpoint when you're young. There's also nothing much you can do to avoid the "daddy's money" accusation. In short, it depends on how much you care about such things. Just keep in mind that people who notice the watch on a young person will tend to make negative associations than positive ones.

That is what I thought too, but after just a few months it is looking pretty bad. I am currently looking for a pre-loved LV that I can put on a rubber strap for occasions when I know there is going to be violence. I just need to convince myself that green is almost blue.

It could be an age thing - I turn 50 soon and have found myself eyeing a solid gold Sub as a b-day present to myself. Ten years ago, this would have been unthinkable.

I don't think it's so much of an age issue, but more on personal taste. I'm 51, and I'm now torn between a SS Sub and a two tone. I'm having a hard time choosing between the two.

I don't think it's an age thing.....but it is a very personal thing.....some love or hate it.....some grow to love it.....others never do......some say it has to do with skin tone......I happen to think mine goes fine with my skin colour but I let a mate try it on and to be honest it just didn't look right on him at all, it was weird but there you go......I wanted a DayDate since my Dad first pointed one out to me in our local AD's window when I was 8 years old.....it was suspended in a fish tank with the bubble flow gently swinging it ever so slightly side to side.....my Dad said to me

"You see that watch in the fish tank there? Well, it will never leak, or stop, it will keep excellent time as long as the bubbles move it a little. That's a Rolex Day Date in Gold. It's one of the best watches in the world, if you ever have enough money to buy one you will never be disappointed with it"

I took those words to heart.....I bought mine in 2002....over 30 years later.....my Dad cannot believe it to this day when I show up with it on......think he's actually quite proud....good advice from my old man.

A happy medium....

If all gold is too much, adding a leather strap seems to provide just the right balance!

I think allot of factors are at play in a Gold watch. Age, Income, lifestyle etc.

The best thing about wearing a gold Rolex is you can sing...."Goldfinger...he's the man, the man with the golden touch...the touch of gold"

Certainly not an age thing. I'm 25 - if I could afford a full gold, i'd be wearing one right now. For the meantime, my SS GMT and LV will have to do.

TT can bugger off though IMO.
