From what I've read the LV will probably be more desirable in future, but I'm no expert. However, even Rolex haters in the WIS community have a grudging respect for the SD.

The dial size of the SD is only 1mm smaller than that of the LV, but the SD looks noticeably smaller than the LV on the wrist. The SD also sits taller and heavier on the wrist and people have reported it to be less comfortable than the LV. On the plus side, the serrated edges of the SD bezel is more prominent making it look slightly better in that aspect. The SD also lacks the date magnifier thereby giving the dial a cleaner and more symmetrical look; others however think that the cyclops is the hallmark of a Rolex watch.

I have a Sea Dweller and I give it my vote because it was actually developed for deep sea diving and was the best diving watch, by far, of it's era. The LV on the other hand is a prettier watch but is symblic of Submariners transitioning from a tool watch to a luxury item.

I had a Sea-dweller and now own an LV. I miss my Sea-dweller.

I prefer the look of the LV (except the cyclops), but miss the added weight of the Sea-dweller. Not too much, but just enough weight. Good luck on making the call…….tough, tough call.

Deep Sea is in transit to me.

Sea Dweller - Technically a better watch - 4000ft as opposed to 1000ft (Even though you never need this for scuba diving), no cyclops and I would get tired of the green.

I have both but if forced to choose, it'd be the SD. Until the Deepsea came along, the SD was Rolex's toughest watch and I like the absence of the Cyclops.

SD - its my all time favourite ... if I would have to give up all my rolex watches (5513 (1968), Explorer 1 (1961 and 2008), Milgauss (2009) ... and my IWC's & Panerai's I would always keep the SD - perfect size, perfect weight ... it's the queen of the sub's and it's out of production now.

Go for the SD - there's something cool about the "under the radar" look.

SD is a lovely watch but I moved it on and kept the LV. Far more comfortable as far as I'm concerned and versatile with the option to switch out bezels as others have duly noticed

I voted for the SD.

I like them both but the SD is the 'tough' one and that sets it apart from all the other subs IMO.

I own the LV so I'm biased.

When shopping I found that the sub just 'felt' better on my wrist. Also I like the cyclops....and after getting used to that I don't think I could own a watch without it. I know some folks don't like the look...but I think is pretty cool and makes the watch look more meaningful.

Bought the SD,sold it to make funds for an LV,sold it after two months to make funds for an IWC,sold it after 6 months to make funds for a 14060M,sold it.
Guess wich one I'm buying back now ??? The SD !!! Get it while it's around !!! You can't fault that watch. You will find it absolutely thick and heavy, tough to wear during hot weather and......you'll just love it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The main reason why I'm buying it back is that it was the watch I was wearing during my wedding. And I'm soooo lucky to say that it's actually THAT watch I'm buying back !!!!

Most people won't know the difference and if they ask, tell 'em "it's the new Submariner 2.0 that I'm beta testing."

Happy hunting!
I'm generally in the same boat, that's why I have the SD.

I do often long for the decreased case height and maxi dial/hands of the LV. I've searched and searched for pictures of the LV with cyclops removed, but can't find any.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

The SD is a true classic design but I have to agree with Mike.

LV with the black insert.

Would have to agree with Paul above, added benefit is the LV, for most, is more comfortable to wear year round.
