My dad had some dermatological issue with watch case-backs for most of his life, although I think he wore metal bands on his last couple of watches. He did on the last one I bought him.
However, through all the years I was growing up, he always took off whatever band came with the watch to replace it with a nylon strap, usually brown. He must not have been the only one to do so, but I always thought it was weird, when really it was way cool. Perspective is everything.
