Of course Astcell, the good thing about having Mike on the forums, is that if we compare ourselves and our collection to Mikes, we will never feel we have an adiction or have gone extreme!! LOL LOL

While I love my SS GMT I have the TT GMT and I feel it is a little redundant. I will likely sell my SS GMT... I think $3400 is the going rate? If anyone has advice for me in this area I'd appreciate it. The used jewelry store guy offered me $2900 sight unseen but at that price I'd just assume give it to my brother as a gift.

But then I can sell the PAM and use that to go towards the TTYM.... too many decisions and options, but all good!

Unfortunately my funds are not as unlimited as JJ's sheep population. I did buy a ring for Carol (finally) with my SSWFDC savings and really need to not watch shop for at least 3 months!

If your brother does not have a Rolex, and you give it to him as a gift, it will be worth more than the price of a Rolex for him. Give it to him with the condition that he wear it 24/7 and then pass it on down to offcpring/grandchildren!

Nice idea. I hope he wouldn't mind a used watch. I am still not completely convinced of his ability to be a responsible adult, but maybe something like this would show that someone has faith in him. Just a thought.

You know, I am REALLY glad that I pay cash for the watches I have (or charge them and pay them off asap, just to get the miles). I'd sure hate to have payments and not recall what I am paying on. Oh I do have my share of credit card bills but I know my watches are free and clear. That makes it all the more sweet to have them, and easier to make a gift out of them.

Still thinking of other options too, still not too late.

How old is your brother? Military also? Make him sign a document he will wear and keep, not flip it for cash. A used Rolex is still a Rolex!

Way to go, Robert! You won't be disappointed in the slightest... The LV is a beautiful watch. I have swapped Rolexes with my younger brother and even gifted one to my dad, however, they've proven over the years to be pretty responsible. I take it your brother is younger than you?

My brother is 36 going on 20, his saving grace is that he has a kid and finally got responsible. He did 18 months in the Army and got out due to substance abuse, it took a toll on him and to this day he has never really been happy. he says there is stuff out there that makes you euphoric but it seems it takes a lifetime of happiness and gives it to you in 5 seconds, and it is not worth it. He got that monkey off his back and I am rooting for him all the way. He also swears I have been a great older broher but I disagree.

Alan Furman now has the LV Sub for $7695. At this rate I will trade it for a SSWFDC soon!

I was fortunate to get mine for retail at $5525 and no sales tax.

Sounds like your brother is working things out by the way, maybe the Rolex would be a way to congradulate him. Make him think you still have faith in him.

$5525 here too, plus $35 shipping. Plus I had no idea it had been out for so long already.

A question to LV owners:
is the rolex crown that is etched on the LV's crystal larger than other rolex models or is it of the exact same size?

same size on mine as well...

often times, the "replicas" have a larger (and MORE viewable) etched crown...

Thought so.. Recently a friend's colleague was showing me his LV which, as it seems from the above, should be as genuine as a Chinese made rolex..

Mine ran me $5195 delivered... but i bought a 99% second hand model (in all reality, it looked brand new to me when it arrived). As it's a submariner and will get banged around by me anyways, I figured I'd save a little and buy it used.

Due to a BAD ATTITUDE from one and now TWO of the salesmen at my AD, I have decided to return my Submariner LV, unopened. I do not want to look at it and be reminded of someone else's grumpy attitude and lousy day.

Well the first guy's sales tactic is getting to be your buddy, prancing around you, telling you how great you look and smell and how cool you are and he wishes he could be like you. That does NOT work for me, sorry.

So then I found a salesman who was normal. From him I got my GMT, LV and a slew of other jewelry. He knows I want the SS Daytona and the Plat Pres. When I go into the mall I pass by this store and wave or go in just to say hi.

A salesman's dream, right? A guy who walks in to say hi and you can always have a new item to show him.

Well after I showed that I am a serious shopper, the first salesman one day gets in my face and says hey I was taking care if you, I was here for you, I was going to get you whatever watch you wanted, why didn't you buys from me, huh?, huh? Why not, what didn't you? And of course there was no room to answer. I later told management that his sales tactics did not work well with my buying tactics. Everyone knew what I meant but I said it the PC way.

Everytime I go into the store and see salesman #1 he walks away. No smile, no hello, no time of day, nothing. Heaven help me if he is the only one in the store!

Well last night we went in to get my wedding band. Salesman #1 was standing beside two other sales folks, and the store was empty. I walked in and walked right by them towards the counter in back. An elderly salesman with a mustache says "There is no one back there." I wanted to say "THEN GET BACK THERE ALREADY!" He finally figured that out for himself.

I do not have my claim check so he wants my driver's license. I try on the ring, it fits but it is sticky. It has tape residue on it. A LOT of residue.

He did not clean it.
He did not offer to clean it.
We pointed out the tape and he rubbed on it with his fingers. "Oh, it's just tape."
We had to ask for a box.
We did not bother asking for a bag, this was obviously too much for him.

So then Carol says we want it cleaned up because this is his wedding ring and it has to be perfect.

Then the salesman says, Just give him the ring and don't get married.

Thank you Cupid!!!!

Oh does anyone from MAYOR'S ever read these posts? Or maybe their competitors? Because as a guy who has spent about $30,000 on jewelry in the last 7 months, I can give you some simple tips to keep me coming back!

That's terrible, Robert.

Good Lord, after reading some your horror stories, I think the salesmen in your part of the world need to take a trip down to NZ to learn how customers should be treated.

Seriously!!

I agree with you Robert, a lot of AD's are just plain rude. Salesman sometimes think they are superior to us. Don't they realize that most customers that purchase fine jewelry are above their income bracket. Ive had some horrible expierences as well. Just think about it this way Robert you saved some money!

Astcell, so you are going to return your Sub LV? Jsut keep your GMT SS?

Seems most Rolex ADs do have issues! Have also experienced some that are really snobbish or do not even know their products very well. (see a post I had 2 days ago)

Astcell,
I am sorry that you had a run in with several fools who have no class. Because the LV is sort of hard to find, maybe you might keep it and find a new AD. Each time you look at the LV it should make you happy that Mayor's has lost a good return customer. (you got the watch you wanted and a new AD) If you buy additional Rolex watches in the future you can be proud that Mayor's lost your money. If you return your LV they will just sell it to someone else.

Keep it and reward yourself with the adventure of finding a new AD. When you walk in with your LV the new AD will know your a serious Rolex consumer.

I think we all have a bad war story or two with sales people, I had a car dealer I had bought two new vehicles from in a four year period, the dealer got sloppy and lied to me about the price on a third car. I now have a new car dealer and I say to hell with the old one. Bad news/poor customer relations catch up with stores in time Mayor's may miss you in the future.

JJ: Yes customer service is out the window here. It used to be "Service with a smile" and now it is "Service with a snarl." Gee they stand in the store with NO ONE else there, do they not realize that they are losing money? How about walking to the front door and see if people look at the displays, and start up a conversation! From the sound of NZ prices, when I go to get my Plat Pres ($46,000US plys 7% sales tax) it may be worth a flight out there.

Slim: I do not know how much the sales people earn. They wear nice suits and rings and watches, maybe they are borrowed for the day from stock. But what they make ought to not matter. I had a time in my life when I fellt "holier than thou" becasue I made $1,000US a month. I felt rich! I treated everyone else like they were elephant snot and I reminded them how successful Iwas with my income. Well when the job ended I found that all of a sudden I wish I had a $3.50/hr job! And I learned that income is not everything, it is the ability to work that counts. And ever since then if you pull your own weight I am happy for folks who like their job, regardless of income level. So if they make $45K or $450K I will treat them no different. Now when I walk into the AD I usually have on drawstring pants and a polo shirt and sneakers. The salesfolks wear a suit. Sorry, I am not impressed, they HAVE to wear it. And it is a chain store.

Leopardprey: I still have the SS GMT II I got from them. About 100 days wrist time. I'll sell it for $3300 or give it to my brother. I don't want it now. I will make my TT GMT II my primary timepiece.

Tombstone: The LV is hard to find but apparently a tactful AD is even harder to find. I'll hold out for the latter. Everyone says don't buy the watch, buy the watch seller. And I can speak with my money. Yes they lose the sale on thr LV, they also pay a small fee to the credit card company for both the same and the return. They will resell it and hopefully they will be KIND to the person! I regret that my salesperson is the one who loses his commission but the store management knew about how I was treated the very first time and they seem to have done little about it. The new AD will know I am serious with my TT GMT II Anniv! I was on the list for a SS Daytona and was all set to buy a Platinum Pres by the end of this year. I may still do that but not from Mayor's.

President: I (and a few others here I am sure) have carried enough firearms for ten lifetimes. Pistols, rifles, machine guns, rockets...fired them all too. when my buddies talk about guns I tend to find another conversation. I am armed wth something better than a firearms -- I have my Amex card which is good at ANY AD! In fact I bet I can call Amex and state my displeasure. That is one of the card benefits, I get to whine. :-)

I love the selection the store has but they have horrid salesfolks. This is the way the world is going. Dell has good computers but try CALLING them on the phone. Call an 800 number to order something on TV and talk to someone who knows English as a primary language, haha.

I do not need to be pranced upon. I do not need to be preened and hugged. And I do not need to be talked down to. That entire store can learn a lesson from Brad.

Have you thought about sending a formal complaint to Rolex office? How about a letter to Mayor main office? It is more likely some action with be taken against that horrible sales person with a complaint that will hopefully end up in his employee profile.
