If you think the LV is the watch you can wear everyday without worry, then go for it.

My humble suggestion, you are going to have a reasonable pot when you sell, so diversify and buy a newish Airking for daily wear, (I really regret selling mine), then get a Sub of some description, to wear at weekend.
I think you could do quite well that way, rather than plowing all the money into an LV.. But love the LV and its your money!

Thank you Mike. Glad you liked the car.
I guess I made something wrong this time, when sizing the pictures with the imageshack frog!! I wish Kicko will be very happy with his LV, and I also feel that the SD has a different feeling on the wrist than the Sub, being more heavy and tall than the later. I still prefer the Sub (date or no date) over the SD, though I own both. Just a matter of personal taste. Very cordially, Abel

Thanks, but I'm looking for something that I can keep on my wrist and not worry every time I smack it on something. For me is 6 grand on my wrist and I'm afraid of smashing the crap out of it. I need something durable, something I can wear, smack around and get serviced and buffed in 5 years and it'll still look new. A vintage piece is for weekend wear IMO and careful wear as well. Nope, LV will fit the bill just fine. Oh, and I need the black insert, whoever trades can keep the green one.

And when the time came, all it needed was a cleaning and a new crystal and it looks brand new. There are a lot of modern subs out there, but it will be much harder to find another great looking 5513 like your's. |

Since I like vintage If I had to pick a modern Rolex watch to buy it would be the LV Submariner with a black insert.

Steve, how about a 16800 with a matte dial? Vintage look with a sapphire crystal....the best of both worlds.
Best of luck with your change. |

To me Vintage Sub has Plastic although the 16800 is nice transitional. Id go with an LV over a 16800 Either way enjoy whatever you get.

I understand. I bought my YM new, and all of my cars new. I don't baby the YM at all, and wear it every day, doing a variety of tasks.
I have a few vintage watches from relatives, although none are as expensive as a Rolex. I had one, a 1940s-era Movado sports watch, restored for several hundred dollars. Although it looks awesome, it is not waterproof or shock-proof, and I got nervous wearing it on a daily basis. Heck, every time I washed my hands I had to worry about getting the thing wet (I admit, probably an over-reaction on my part). I love the look of vintage Rolexes in particular. Right now I'm toying with getting a Rolex bubbleback. I also fell in love with a 1940s gold Patek that I saw at a fine antique jewelry store in LA. The reason I haven't taken the plunge yet is that I'm sure my fear of damaging either watch with "normal" wear (that I'm accustomed to with my YM) would diminish my enjoyment, and I would have a very expensive vintage "safe queen" that I would wear only on very special occasions. So, this is a long way of saying that you have to do what's right for you. |

I love the vintage look (and vibe) but won't ever buy a vintage watch because I'd be overly worried about it being too fragile to withstand daily use.
Also a consideration is the availability of spare parts... |

I really like vintage Subs but only really because of the stories involved with them. I could never wear a vintage watch every day, especially when it can be seen as a collectors item.
Sub LV with black insert on a NATO for you I think!! |

I like vintage but decided that when my wife bought me my GMT that it should be new so I could make it my own vintage and pass it down myself.
I love old watches but when it came to owning one I went new so I totally appreciate your point of view. |

I've worn modern and vintage for 35 years and see no difference in their rugged, durable natures. This red sub is my personal daily favorite and has been on everything from ocean dives to 3 mile high freefalls to fast sportbike rides. My brother doesn't like modern so he wears a double red sea-dweller or a Steve Mcqueen explorer as daily wear and they've survived countless open water dives and even a 2 week dirt bike ride through the jungles of S.E. Asia.
The only difference between the LV and the 5513 is the coolness factor of the 5513. I know which one I would prefer. |

So, you're telling me that everything is equal regarding durability? Band, crystal, construction in general? I haven't been wearing vintage very long but I don't feel I can put my Meters First Sub through the same paces as a brand new one. I traded my 16610 and I would wear that just about anywhere without worry and on the other hand the 5513 I feel won't handle the same. I've smacked my 16610 pretty hard and it bounced back sans damage whereas I have simply grazed a door jam with the 5513 and spent a half hour with the Polywash! I'm sorry, I must disagree.
