I am soooooo very tempted to get one now and have that intoxicating "first kid on the block" feeling, but my wallet is not cooperating with this desire at the moment.

I was about to pull the trigger this week, actually. I had been inquiring about a couple I knew about for sale. My current conundrum is I have a beautiful 16610 Sub LV that is off at the RSC for warranty work. It was supposed to be back in my hands as soon as mid-August, but I have not seen it thus far. I had basically committed myself to selling it and one other non-Rolex in my collection to build the funds for a Sub-C. Given the fact that I have not seen/worn my Sub LV in almost two months, I've decided not to sell it down the river by buying the next one until at least I have the LV back in my hands. If it weren't for some pesky trees I am having cut down in my yard to the tune of $2k+, I'd be less risk-averse at this juncture.

Impulse will eventually get the better of me, but hanging tight with the current collection for now!

lots of interesting reading in this thread , i was told at my local ad , no discount at all on new sub , and non on old sub either as they would be in short supply.
the new prices made a pre loved 16613 look like agood option , 5k sterling for a stainless steel watch is getting a bit over the top i think.
i think those who have money will ride the price rise , but the gap between havs and have nots is getting wider by the day .

I'm not concerned about being the first to have the latest model and if the price breaks £5k sterling then I'll most likely pull out of the purchase.

I really struggle to see the value of a £5k ss watch.

I'm 3rd on the waiting list at my AD but when I asked them if they'd had any in they said they only had one and that they only get new stock in every 6 months or so. But then again AD's always exaggerate so i'm thinking maybe a few week wait to get one on a waiting list?

Interestingly though, there are & have been a number of ceramic subs on ebay (UK).. Most are asking £5490, some £4990, and one which had a start price of £4610 (list). All of these mentioned above have now ended, and not one was bought or bid on, even the one starting at list price...

Either the recession is hitting again (although it didn't affect this market a year or so back), or Rolex have simply inflated their pricing just too much... What do you guys think?

There is also 116520 Daytona's a year old selling on ebay for circa £6K (list is £6400 ish) - again, unheard of.

Maybe Rolex is just simply getting too expensive.

Hey, I'm still excited anyway

A lot of potential purchasers want to go into a bonefide AD and get the "Rolex" service. i.e. fitting and all receipts etc..

I have a '97 SD and will not be trading up. However I have just bought a brand new GMTIIc from an AD which whilst being around for a little while is in my eyes a better looking watch with the maxi case than a SD.

All subjective of course. But is a new SD is not flying out in hours at list on a forum then it's hype pure and simple. Money talks and bull$hit walks!

I think when the whole new release thing dies down people will realise that the Sub-C is no better than a GMT-C, you can pick them up for £3500 just now, which makes the Sub-C look way overpriced.

Personally i just can't justify buying new, imagine if you buy a Sub-C now, you pay a minimum of RRP, you just know in 6-12 months it'll be worth 4k maybe, you go out and buy a secondhand GMT-C at 3.5 to 3.7k and you know it'll be worth that much in a years time.

after reading the posts sounds like the daytona is easy to get hold of....
i went into a few dealers around bond st 3 weeks ago and offered them 7k for the white dial version, they were priced between 7.5 - 7.8 and they all turned me down... so they must be getting the money for them?

if there is one lying around for RRP, let me know

i dont think so if those dealers were Authourised Dealers. they should always sell at MSRP.... the grey deals is a different story

at the moment, imo - the SS Daytonas should be easier to get compared to the Sub-Cs... because they have been in the circulation longer and people are generally more excited about the new model than the existing ones.

picked up my Whitey last month from my AD at MSRP and there was a black one at MSRP yesterday (has gone to a new home by now)

btw - there are always one laying around at any ADs or their chain stores... im sure they will be more than happy to sell you one at MSRP if you make a precious model purchase at the same time (have been offered this "combo deal" for more than 3 times in the past...)

Trust me on this one, a dealer would get slaughtered by Rolex if they sold a new watch for over RRP. Second hand, charge what you want, but if it's new, not a penny over.

We've had trouble shifting black dials, still demand for white dials - as I say, I don't get it

seems to me like im buying in the wrong place? or how many watches do you need to buy from a AD to be shown the holy grail for RRP?

interesting reading....

my post was a bit misleading, when i said dealer i ment grey ones....

i've asked many a AD in UK and abroad and they look at me like i have three heads when asking for a SS day.

i have tried a couple of times by walking into an AD (different chain btw) i have not been before, started talking about SS Daytonas and other piece i'd like to acquire.

they have all offered a deal of something along this line - if you buy this RG Daytona today with 20% off, I will get you a SS Daytona of your dial colour choice within 24 hours.

or.

if you buy this YG GMTIIC today with X% discount, i will get you a SS Daytona tomorrow.

as for my London AD, asked to get on their waiting list this Feb, received mine last month. im still on Bucherer AD's waiting list (got on in Feb also)

I went into my AD on Monday and he had a Sub-C out the back, he got 2 last week and had one person on the waiting list, he said come next weekend if he's not sold it then he's putting the other one in the window.

A few people have been in and looked at it but no takers, apart from a guy who buys everything. I had a look but its just not worth the money to me. Its a least £1,000 over priced. For me the GMT-C is a much nicer looking watch and looks more for the money. The fact that he was selling a mint used example for £3,200 also got me tempted, might go back for that.

I emailed my local AD dealer where I made my last purchase enquiring about a couple of items. They had a GMT II in stock (still on the short list), They have an Explorer II which is what I really need to try (as it's favorite at the moment)........The Sub C wont be available in there store untill next year

I am sure this is the same company Eric (ESM) bought his from the other day!!

Chris I seem to remember a member on here saying that Bexley will change a dial for you on a new daytona purchase is that still the case?
