My personal feeling is that the company's commitment to quality has declined since it was purchased by Johnson Outdoors. There have been too many recalls, some only after divers have been seriously injured and sued. Scuba Equipment failure is a rare event if the gear is properly maintained. However, Scubapro seems to be leading the pack when it comes to equipment problems.

OK! Now you guys just STOP IT! You're making me feel VERY VERY OLD!!!!! When I was a professional, (late 70s and early 80s) we were 100% open circuit. I seriously used twin 72s with a ScubaPro Mark 7 (I think the current model is a Mark 25) regulator. I had a Harvey's dry suit, an Ikelite sealed beam 6 volt battery light, and the latest peice of equipment was the AIR II combo BC Inflator/Octopus. My deepest was240', and I was Narked so bad I am not even sure I could tell you what I was diving on (a civil-war era two-masted schooner in Lake Huron). I hit some pretty good wrecks back in those days, but you're making me feel like I was using stone-age equipment, like I chipped my own diving knife out of flint or something....

So does that mean that you are going to get your Mark 7 tuned up for our underwater GTG next year, Paul?
Seriously, steel 72's are a better tank than aluminum 80's, hands down especially when tanks are almost empty. The AirII combo is still alive and well and marketed as the greatest thing since sliced bread and as for lights, they still sell that same ilelite light for around 80 bucks!!! Your not that far out of the game, there are not to many that have made the leap over to the rebreather category. Even that is technically more antiquated technology (minus the new computers, but the concept of..) than the SCUBA. So, wake up out of your nap, dust off the US Divers equipment and your double Mistral hoses and you can act like you are on a rebreather. Cheers, and I seriously hope you take another plunge soon to reinvigorate your diving....for fun this time, not work! Oh, almost forgot...they have this new gas that was developed to help with narcosis........it's called Helium, everyones on it...:) Quote:

I hope this is a joke
This is the greatest death trap I have ever seen, why? how? aaaah? I don't know what to say.....I do not pray in the church of the DIR but they have a name for this guy, Stroke. I usually hate to label people but, my god, does he want to die underwater?

The idea, in the simplist of terms, "Streamlined redundancy." He looks like a dive shop vomited, and he couldn't get out of the way quick enough
Looking at that picture is like doing a puzzle in the NY Times . If its that complicated to look at, its that complicated utilize.

Does this full face allow you to talk underwater. It looks like the thing at the end of the wire could be an underwater speaker allowing others to hear you through the water. Water carries sound excellent. You just can't tell which direction it's coming from is all.

one of the main reasons for wearing full face masks is to get comms , communication systems , either by a cable , usually integrated into a divers lifeline , along with several hoses and the likes , or through water , like a small radio station that lets you comunicate with other divers or topside ,
lifes a lot nicer when they dont work though ,, hope that helps although when it goes wrong , its still down to pulls on a rope ,, it kinda makes divers into '' a really slow but expensive remote controlled toy'' |

a cluster f**k is an old term for it ,,, made of string sticks and crow s**t
is another, diving is like trying to eat spag boll in the dark with a spoon , weating boxing gloves ,while wearing a hockey mask , so , anything you can do to make it simple makes it safe. that actually makes quite a good catch phrase make it simple ,, make it safe. so , if you can imagine trying to get half of that stuff to work , or see it even you can see where the funny side creeps in .. |

I use a Zeagle BC which I love, but I've never had the extreme joy of trying to reset it after dropping weights. My Regulator is a Sherwood which a lot of people seem to like but I dont. It whistles until my tank pressure drops below 1800 psi and the hoses have already been replaced (under warranty) twice. My most noteworthy piece of equipment is a Hydroptix mask. Apparently, some of their engineers discovered that by bending the glass to a certain curve, they could compensate for a broad range of nearsightedness (including mine). No diving with contacts and as an added bonus, you get a much larger range of vision. |

Sherwood Regs
Zed,
I used to sell them years ago, they are simple to overhaul, few working parts, built like a tank, and can take a beating. The perfect rental regulator, but not so great for depth, below 130 they get hard to breath. The whistling is most likely coming from the 1st stage's dry bleed system. Chris
