Just because it's a rolex doesn't make it fit in at a black tie function. A plainum AP RO Offshore wouldn't fit in either, even though it "outclasses" a sub.

No point really. You likely won't ever agree that style and fashion conventions are constantly changing and the one you are hanging on to is outdated. I am not really a big James Bond fan btw.

Now if your saying because it's a dive watch, well I can kinda see for that reason for other dive watches but again, the Sub IS a Rolex. Maybe I think too highly of my Sub C.

It's not that it doesn't match.

It's historically inappropriate etiquette to wear any watch to a true "black tie" affair...

Whether it's a Timex or Rolex or Patek makes no difference.

One thing that makes some sense in not wearing a watch of any kind at a black tie affair is that one is "not supposed to be concerned about the time" at such events. My question has been WHY a Sub doesn't go with a Tux. Someone just saying it doesn't go doesn't cut it for me. Now I understand but just don't agree with that social belief.

Because it's inappropriate and "jarring" to wear a dive watch with formal dress. That's what "dress watches" are for.

Simple answer: tradition.

A "black tie" event is one of uniformity. There are "rules". Wearing a watch (let alone a large sports model) to a "black tie" affair would demonstrate a disregard for protocol and lack of social experience/grace. As far as the "it's brand X" argument goes... it would make one sound like "nouveau riche" (for lack of a better term).

I was going to try and explain this better, but got lazy and googled.

If a person feels strongly about demonstrating freedom and individuality, then I'm afraid "black tie" affairs would be uncomfortable for them.

Black face on any Rolex works best, if you are going to have only one.

And, no Sub's with tux's. No white socks, either.
