Re: Product placement... Often companies like CAA / William Morris Agency work with the script writers / producers on a concept to weasel in a placement opportunity for a category of product - watch, computer, candy ... and then pitch the oppty to companies who will pay $$$ for inclusion in the film.

If the watch an actor is wearing is obtrusive and takes away from the content of the film, the actor is not going to be allowed to wear it. The actor gets wardrobe laid out for him. He cannot simply wear red rain boots if the scene does not call for it.

Correct, for the most part. But if the Grade A+ actor has a deal with, say, Panerai - like Sly Stallone - and the producers want Stallone, then they know that watch deals are off the table. So does CAA and William Morris. Then the actor will wear the watch of his choice (and the watch he's paid to wear) and the producers get nothing.

It's just a watch and hardly central to the story or the wardrobe. And, unlike red rain boots, its noticeable only to watch dorks like us.

Again, this doesn't apply to a movie like, say, "Ironman" where Downey wore a Bulgari and Bulgari paid the producers big $$$$ to have him wear it. This applies to the thousands of other movies where a watch is nothing essential to the plot or character and the producers couldn't get a watch deal if they wanted. Like, for instance, "The American".

A watch company pays the actor to wear its watch in the movie, and thus, has product placement that by-passes the producer.
The ads I was referring to are advertisements. My lovely iPhone made it "ADs" for me for some reason. So helpful.

Precisely. I saw one PO-orange on a rubber strap, the only other Omega in Key West apparently. However, our Seamasters were noticed and inquired about by the crew when snorkeling.

Omegas are just more rarified.

Wear what you like, but I do not foresee Bond going back to Rolex. But then again, he may not be back at all considering MGM financial troubles.

maybe the location was the "issue"

there is no way that the "Omegas are just more rarefied" in the rest of the world...
