I agree and believe that this piece will be able to hold its value really well.

The previous model of 029, I believe is 023. The original 023 was sold at less than HKD20,000, Nowadays, you will be lucky to get one with good condition at HKD50,000. If it is a full set, price will be much higher.

I have been trying to figure out what to get. I have pretty much narrowed down to the in house movements because they have the jumping hour hand. I tried to adjust the time with the outsourced movements at my AD. It was the 88 with the OP VIII movement. Unfortunately I have been spoiled by my GMT 2c, and found it too complicated for my taste.

It looks like the GMT 8 day, so the 233 or 289 would fit my. Also, I think the GMT 3 day 320 and 329 have the jumping hour hand.

So for the moment I am heading towards the 329. It has a SS band which is nice when traveling (I exercise with it on so I don't have to leave it in the room), and I could still use leather bands for when I am not traveling.

What are the odds.... I JUST picked up a 329 (bought it last week, but the additional links just showed up today, so I can wear it). I'm also in Cincinnati, BTW - where about are you?

I have to say I respect other peoples taste in watches and anyone who's a WIS but to be blunt, I don't get the whole Panerai thing. I've seen them. Even read up on them but they don't do anything for me. I even spoke to a trusted old school watch maker/collector (sociopathic 58yr old watch guy that thinks in watch terms) about PAM's and he's certain that within 10 years they'll be flipped or fogotten like Cartier Roadsters, Concord C1's, Alain Silbersteins, U-BOAT's, Chanel's, Heuer heritage models and even newer Blancpains. Most collectors and BASEL groupies I also speak to think if it isn't a Rolex, JLC, Patek, Omega, AP, A.L.&Sohne or even IWC it must be a fad watch. I'm kinda in agreement with them. If anyone knows someone who's had a PAM for more than 5 years (worn it consistently), please comment. I'd like to be 'sold' on one but I haven't been able to be thus far. Or even if there's a good starter PAM model as a tester someone could recommend for a PAM newbie. I'm intrigued... just not sold on them. Help?

I might have you wrong but I didn't buy my Pam because of the history or will it be still around in 10 years time,I bought it because I love the look,it was as simple as that,I was all out looking for a Rolex but came across Panerai,I knew no history on them at the time so it was all on looks, for me the history etc adds to the watch but doesn't make it,I'm not sure how we can turn you on to Pams if you are basing that choice on other factors first rather than starting with look.

I am sorry to be ignorant but what's the difference between 88 and 297 other than the leather strap vs steel?

well this what i have say.in buying a watch or any work of art there are just 3 guiding principles before buying.1) YOU REALLY LIKE IT 2) YOU CAN LIVE WITH IT 3) YOU CAN AFFORD TO BUY IT. On my part following these simple guiding principle i sincerely bought Rolex and panerai watches.i bought them coz i love them and i can afford them.now internationally speaking at the moment the 3 most sought after watch are Rolex,Panerai and patek.thanks

thanks guys - i know it has been a while and i have sort of abandoned this thread... sorry

anyway, here is an UPDATE.

went to my AD and tried on both the PAM088 and PAM355 (for some reason i liked PAM355 rather than PAM098, even though the differences are quite small), found PAM088 was too busy and bulky for my liking and the PAM355 was a better fit, but still not too convienced on it, especially its 42mm case.

on the same day, my AD suggested that he will have 2 x PAM210s coming by end of this year and since he knew i have been looking for one, he will put my name down for one - so a refundable deposite paid.

so, i have decided to "look elsewhere" for a GMT alternative.... spent half a day in town and talked to a few grey dealers, tried a PAM232, loved it and was offered a "decent" price but it was missing the scroll - so no deal for me. then tried on a PAM292 PIG, nice but abit too black for my liking ... then was offered to try a PAM249 - OMFG, that thing is so damn sexy, but at £10k with everything, it was more than what i wanted to pay...so again, no deal. Anyway, sometime during the day one of the ADs had a PAM210 in stock, but didnt buy it since I already have one coming from my AD.

sorry, no wrist pix for the PAM232, PAM292, PAM249 and PAM210....

now fastward to a couple of days ago.... found out that "my" PAM210 isnt going to arrive for sometime, possibly till early 2011.... so have decided to get my deposit back and put the £££ somewhere else.

i guess this is "the end" of my PAM210 journey. too many "unfortunate events", so i guess its not meant to happen.

so, thank you again - i think my Panerai journey will end with my PAM000 for now until the itch returns/flame re-ignites

For now indeed Eric...

I'm looking at an 88...have to say I tried one on recently and loved the way it sat on my wrist...and I want a "busy" dialled PAM to contrast with the simplicity of the 183 which I have just ordered a JV strap for

We're off OS soon...so will be trying them on in greater abundance ... 2011 definitely holds another PAM

Yeah I read somewhere that you were wanting a PAM088 the other day, Dalip. Have to admit the bracelet us quite nice though.

Would really like another Panerai, but nothing really jumping at me at the moment... Except for the PAM249. I just love that blue hands and the Cali dial. Oh man....

2011 is going to be a quiter year for my watch collection - all for better reasons.

Enjoy the OS trip! Look forward to seeing your PAM088 pix soon mate

Not for a while Eric

'Better reasons" sounds good??

After seeing the GV worn so well by the head of BMW's M division - and with all the formal events coming up with weddings and stuff overseas...I'm confused even more as to which watch to take

Was going to be the LV with black insert...lots of pool/resort/beach also involved....

I think the Pepsi on jubilee bracelet should do the trick nicely. It is such a modern classic IMO. Should go well with the suit as well as going into the pool

How about the 116520?

As for the "better reasons" - let's not talk about it yet

Seems like there's always a member looking for a Panerai (not me). Why doesn't someone just sell them here? There's a few good BNIB Rolex sellers. Can't be too hard to get a Panerai rep here... Can it??? Oh, hold on... There's plenty for sale! Imagine that.

I have just read through some of your previous posts and just in case I don't get a chance to do this while you are here.

please amuse me... if you are not looking (and clearly you are not interested in one..), why would you waste your time and TRF bandwidth by posting in this Panerai Sub-forum?

definitely the PAM 297 but thats just because i have it :D i really love the watch and love the panerai s/s bracelet so comfy and sexy :) but the 88 is also great just not a brushed case but a polished case and leather strap.

Why is this necessary? You don't like Pams good for you, there are plenty of other places you can go.

Consider this the first and last warning.

BTW, there are people here that do a good business in Panerai.
