Also, if this was a Tudor it would be in the Rolex General forum, so that brand is crossed off. Now when I think back, I think of Zenith who supplied the movement for the Daytona. There are quite a few new Zeniths on the market now, but with a blackish dial my guess would be one of the newest arrivals in the Elite collection: the New Vintage with the squarish case and blackish dial. |

Unfortunately, not warm enough.... Sorry. Although I have seen the Striking 10 in person and I loved it. My AD is getting the Vintage 1969 in soon so I will get to play with it and compare the two. Hopefully I will pick one of them up sometime next year. Gotta love the tri colour sub dials. |

Oh yeah! As much as I like the Vintage 1969 look in the tri colour sub dial combo, just not sure about the square case/lugs... Need to handle it in person first. Otherwise the Striking 10 would be a winner. The case design is much more sexier than the Vintage 1969.....

Oh my current guess is the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms of some variety, they have the Rolex/BP dive watch 1953 rivalry. |

As for the Blancpain FF... Nope. It didn't really tickle my fancy when I was wearing my AD mates FF on strap for a while while my brother in law was trying on watches... Looks great IMO, but it just didn't sing. |

Huh. I'm really lost now thinking about brands with a relationship to Rolex other than Zenith. I think I read something about Panerai being related somehow but can't remember it now.
Hmmmm. You say "was" which implies that it's no longer associated with Rolex. This either means an older brand or perhaps one that has just started making its own in house movements now, and perhaps shared the Zenith El Primero link. Argh, this one is good. My Rolex history isn't what it should be, so this is super fun for me to figure out. EDIT: I just remembered that WAYYYY back Panerai used to use Rolex cases, dials, and movements. So my guess now is that it's a Panerai of some variety. My knowledge of Panerai is sadly lacking, and I doubt I can narrow it down any further. But here goes! Expect another edit soon! DOUBLE EDIT: Perhaps the Radiomir Composite Marina Militare? That has a blackISH dial. (I doubt that's correct) TRIPLE EDIT: Assuming it's Panerai I can't narrow it down any further than the brand as they ALL have black or blackish dials. (unless of course that hint meant more than I thought, and it's a diver model as Panerai used the Rolex parts in their divers) |

That is correct!
BUT - Huston, we have a problem... I still have not committed to the model even I have put down the deposit... (WTF, I know) I have changed my mind literally the day after and I have not yet a clue which one I really want. One thing for sure is that it will be on strap |
