Why are some ADs so cocky to the people they serve?

Just a hunch on their interests and earnings. They're mostly jewellery people anyway.

I asked a lady salesperson at one of my ADs to take the 116509 out of the display for me to try on. I wish I had a camera with me to show you guys the blank look on her face.

"Daytona", I explained .... "The silver one ?" she replied .....

Clueless.

As an aside I tried the watch on and it looked quite sweet, silver face, red hands. Trouble is I had my 116718 and the 116509 on the Rolex felt tray at the same time after taking the watch off and the GMT just made the Daytona look like a lightweight.

When I was in the market for a Steel Daytona about 4-5 years ago I went in to my local AD to ask about ordering a Steel Daytona and the very helpful young lady asked me to wait while she had a word with the manager as he dealt with Rolex.
That ignorant a-hole didn't even speak to me he just looked at me and laughed and told her I would be lucky.
The young assistant looked rather embarrassed as I walked out.
A week later though it went in my favour as I walked in to another AD in another town wearing my TT Daytona (I no longer have) and asked the same question.
While being very helpful the manageress was going to tell me I had no chance when I slipped in the story of the ignorant a-hole the week previously.
She apologidsed for the conduct of her collegue in the other store and I was put on the list.
4 days short of a year later I was wearing a Black Dial Steel Daytona.
I would probably never have got one if it wasn't for that idiot in the first AD, but he still doesn't deserve to be the manager of market stall let alone a top end jewellers.

You want snooty? Ever shop at Louis Vuitton? Hugo Boss? Tiffany? Prada? It's all the same. I actually think it's funny.

What really bothers me more is the hard sell probing questions like when they ask within the first 10 seconds..."so are you ready to go home with a new Rolex today?" Im much more at ease with a salesperson who introduces his or herself, and let's me know that they are there to answer any questions I might have, then backs off. I find the tired old hard sell sales pitch lines VERY irritating.

Most of the time, when I go to an AD, I just want to look at the watches, not talk to a sales-person. As soon as one comes over, I know that there will be no peace and quiet, and I'll have to do ten minutes of chit chat.

Some of the best sales reps know when to back off, but be available if you have a question or decide to buy. Larry.

The RDV (AD) that I went to at the Nov GTG in Toronto was very courteous.

When Pete, Ed (RockRolex) and I went to the Rolex counter no salesperson hounded us but when we decided to start trying out watches the manager gave us a sales lady to help us out. It could have been that there were a lot of watch enthusiasts in the store at one time, but they didn't give us an attitude.

There was "back away from the counter, sir" attitdue (so far).

I visited the AD here in MD. I had the name of the general manager, and made a point to see him. They were great. I tried on maybe seven different watches. No pressure to buy- the opposite in fact.

I can't say as I received the exact same service at the watch mega-store in NYC. I walked over to the manager and asked to be waited on, but as always, I tried to stand tall, make eye contact, and exude a friendly attitude. He assigned someone to me, and we eventually had a nice chat. I knew more about the brands I was looking at, although he was good at saying "very impressive watch, excellent choice, looks great on your wrist!". Amazing how every watch can elicit those comments!

I have found that an air of confidence, even if you have to force it out, does wonders in so many situations. Not to be confused with arrogance- that just screws things up!

I don't see them earning more than 5 grand cash a month but I can be wrong.
