Thanks for the comments. I just sent another Rolex forum member (responded to a PM) from Australia a long winded email regarding costs and ownership. These forums are great to share information about watches, cars, etc.

A Ferrari is like a boat :) Better to rent when you want to have fun and hand the keys back when your done. I myself like to rent as much as possible in life anything that requires too much work and maintenance, The only thing I own is my Primary residence, stuff inside the house, two automobiles. The rest in highly liquid cash generating investments. Keeps life simple and free since I like traveling and living unencumbered. of course to each his own.
Anyhow when I get the itch I rent an F430 from a nice reputable place here in south florida. It is a fun car for sure. Anyhow if you want to drive one, you can experience one. I recommend renting a Ferrari if you have never driven one. |

Best part about NOT owning a Ferrari is being able to absolute flog one for 2 days and give it back with the owner saying Thank You and getting feed back on how it went
2009 430 Scuderia

Got a 04 Gallardo, not been able to enjoy it much though been in the shop since march for twin turbo conversion, having a hard time getting computer dialed in on high boost and i have not had time to tinker with it in a while. I have driven it for less than 1000 miles so i cant really speak on how expensive maintenance is. But even though i cant really drive it now its still nice to look at when i can manage to get to the garage.
What it has... 2 62mm Turbos, Tial wastegates and blow off valves, Custom stainless steel exhaust, Air/Water IC system, Billet Short Block, reverse dish aluminum pistons, AEM Engine Management System, GReddy Electronic boost controller and a whole bunch of other stuff. Newer front clip is on it, custom paint, original color just a touch of orange pearl in the clear, and some wheels... 1087 RWHP Last dyno running way rich, should get 1200-1300 hopefully once its done (20+ mpg on low boost) |

Green tech Guy - WOW! Impressive.
Modding a lambo = baller! (as the young kids put it). Can you really harness more than 600 hp on the street? |

I drove it on low boost which was 800ish and it was manageable. its not something you would throw a novice in but experienced drifter can manage just fine.
There is a commercial premise behind it, i bought it and bought a shop to develop the highest HP "kit" available in the US for the gallardo. There are a few companies that mod them and get 800-900, we are trying to get in the 1300 HP range to contend with the 1300 HP Vipers out there (there are quite a few of them) The project has been placed on the backburner repeatedly due to my lack of time and lack of skilled workers. Once its done it will be a quite affordable solution to the 1300HP Vipers, They run $200k+ and you can get a 03-05 gallardo for 100k and the conversion should be 50-60k retail so $160k car contending with 200K+ cars and the Gallardo looks much better. I did finally get someone to finish the paintwork on the inside a few weeks ago...The upper center console is left alone, it will eventually be replaced with something , not sure yet |

Doesn't get more raw than this....exposed weldings, no floormats, rear tyre pickups (pebbles hitting onto rear wheel arch, sounds like a cement mixer).

Say the Ferrari needs $1500-2500 worth of maintenance and it will not affect putting food on your table then try a few of those payments a year. if you plan on driving it daily then you will understand why some people rarely drive them but do own them. If you can afford the high costs, then Ferrari ownership is very easy. Renting a ferrari could run you $100-$300 an hour! if all they offer is a Testarossa for $100 the clutch is too hard as well as on the 348 the clutch is impossible to push down easily. Better off renting a more modern 360 paddleshift and up!
Also, the 308-355 have the offset pedals to the right if you have wide feet your going to be uncomfortable footing the clutch and wind up over revving the engine cuz thats the only pedal easiest to push. |

EDIT: Scuderia excuse me, Even More of a race car, definitely not the typical Ferrari. Also i have never driven a 430 at all, it may fill that "raw" feeling PS what camera are you using, those shots look professional, mine are always blurry or shaky |
