The right note at the right time, so to speak. The opening riff from "Can't You Hear Me Knocking" comes to mind. I just love that sound. The man has soul, whereas your so-called shredder types, like Malmsteen or Steve Vai, leave me cold. I'll take Keith over guys like that any day of the week and twice on Sundays.
Keith makes it look so simple but its very hard to get that sound....and i try all the time.
"Cant you here me knocking" IMHO greatest Stone song off all time off their greatest recording ....sticky fingers.

Keith is the reason I play a Telecaster and Clapton a Strat.
I know 50 million will say a LP is better but I can play them well for some reason.
Maybe its because my first Guitar was a Tele

I have both, and I don't think one is better than the other. They are different and you get a different sound out of each; humbuckers versus single coils. Personally, I think they are both outstanding guitars.

well never could when I was 30 either.
I read the other day he gave up drinking and smoking now that he has kids and is 45 ...getting old changes you
Keith give up?.....no way......he will die with a cigarette in his mouth.
Keith has never been the best guitarist in the band, let alone overall.

Stevie Ray Vaughn is my favorite.

I also like:

Eric Clapton

Buddy Guy

Duane Allman

Jimmie Johnson

Robert Johnson (not electric, I know)

Could be because the blues is my favorite style of guitar playing.

I think it's been pretty well proven that Ralph Macchio is the best.

This list has gotten a lot of discussion, as you can imagine, but it's what Rolling Stone had to say on the topic.

Rory Gallagher is not on the list and he is one if not the best blues Strat player of all time. Slash is not on the list.
Joan Jett????WTF
Kurt C. was not that good ....
SRV should be higher up ..so should Jimmy P.

One that I previously underappreciated was Frusciante. I went to a Chili Peppers concert last year and it was a sight to see him and Flea playing off each other.

I don't want to hear any more about Keith Richards. He's not even the best guitar player in the Stones.

I saw him a bunch when the Chilis were playing clubs in '89/90.

Nels Cline
Eddie Van Halen
Jimmy Page
J. Mascis
Nuno Bettencourt
Richard Thompson

And my favorite of all (if 2:00 on doesn't blow your mind, I don't know what will)...

There are some excellent names here many of which I certainly would have listed, but my favorite has to be Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine. Tom does things with the guitar that most never thought possible.

This is what I get for trusting my memory - it's Surfing With the Alien. As in, singular. Anyhow... how do you embed a video?

Great names showing up throughout this thread. I was particularly glad to see somebody picking up Nuno, Trower and Bonamosa (the recent Black Country Communion record with him, Glen Hughes, and Jason Bonham is killer!!!).

I've got to toss in Blackmore, Iommi, Paul Gilbert, and Richie Kotzen.
