How do you know how accurate your Rolex is?

I am a fairly new rolex GMT owner (3 months) I have seen many posts on here with people saying their watch gains x seconds a day or loses x seconds a day.

My question is how do you know it gains or loses such a small amount of time? do you compare it to another watch / clock. What do you compare it to know it is losing / gaining time?

Might seem a simple / stupid question but I would trust the time on my rolex 100%

Please enlighten me
