Bill Bratton was the best. Last of the few Police Commissioners that would go on the line and say the cop was right and shut up. L.A. you got a Decent guy for Chief. I Remember he was for the Grunts. Him and Joe Dunne, and Esposito, in the begginning, for a year.

Too many choices but my vote would be SD4000 then Sub LV with black bezel and then the classic GMT's.

IMO...not hype at all...and I have both the 16610 and a TT SubC. I personally think that the changes are so great that there are actually two different watches. I personally would choose a SubC.

Either watch would be a great choice as a 1st. Go with the one that makes you smile.

Makes no sense to do it any other way....good luck!

My first was the 116710, but you certainly can't go wrong with any of the watches you listed. The Sub is an outstanding and popular first choice, but the GMT's, especially the Coke or Pepsi, are great choices too. I wouldn't worry one bit about the color standing out too much. They look great.

It sounds to me like you already made your mind up on the GMT. I would personally agree with the others, a Sub or a Datejust. Both are classics. If I was to pick just one watch in this price range and never get another, it would be one of these two.

My Uncle Frank is a retired cop from Brooklyn. His watch - the one that he always wore for as long as I can remember (I'm 48) was the Submariner No Date.
My Aunt bought it for him as a Christmas gift in 1968. We drove all the way up from South Carolina to spend Christmas with them. I will never forget that Christmas - New York for the first time. But the one thing that I remember the most was when Uncle Frank opened up his Christmas present - that Rolex was so special. That is what influenced me to purchase my ND Sub. Bought it last month and, well, it just feels special when I wear it. Get the No Date Submariner. You will be very happy. |

GMTII if you have to deal with time zones or Sub Date if you want to keep track of anything under 60 minutes. Both with black bezel. Can't go wrong.

My first Rolex was a DJ TT-that was 23 years ago! If I was going to recommend a first Rolex today--it would be a Submariner. I also like the idea of a GMT Coke or Pepsi!! You can't go wrong with any of those!

I don't think you could go wrong with any of them. |

I bought my first Rolex (a Datejust) about 5 yrs ago as a present for myself. I went with the DJ b/c I couldn't afford a Sub at the time. I like my DJ just fine but have been coveting a Sub ever since. Probably a "grass is greener" sort of thing but the heart wants what it wants. If I had it to do over again I would've waited until I could comfortably afford the one I really wanted. My advice: get the Rolex that you love and will cherish for years/decades to come. And thank you, sir, for your service!

My vote is simple .. Get what ever you want .. It's you're retirement .. Any model you choose will be "the right one" .. Enjoy you're retirement as well as you're first Rolex .. Wear it in good health .. Thanks for you're service

I'm leaning sub c for the first one. I think a gmt is going to have to make it into my collection at one time and knowing how I buy, I'll have both. I like the Fat Lady as it different and I like big watches. It seems that it has appeal that means something, maybe just me.
If the two girls driving the defender could figure out how to drive a stick shift especially one on the wrong side that you need to shift with your left, that Defender would be gone. That car is the father to the jeep, prob. just as unreliable as a jeep , but its a defender and there are only 10,000 in the US. |

My top three as starter:
1. Sub SS 16610 or the Non Date 2. GMT II (either Pepsi or Coke) 3. Daytona the SD is too big and bulky for my taste - I was going to get one but went with the GMT II instead.. My next watch is sub ND.. hopefully vintage.. But you cant go wrong with Rolex.. Just try them and get the one that smiles back to you. Good luck! |
