Only two things that would compare in terms of holding value would be the house itself and my gun collection.

Not sure what you guys are talking about.

Buying a used Rolex at a good price will hold its value, or resale for close to what you paid.

New Rolexes out of an AD showroom floor are WORSE THAN CARS. You lose at least 30%+ the second you walk out the door, unless it is a less common model like a SS Daytona perhaps.

NOPE ..... Cars are worse ....In cars, you take a 20% hit the moment you drive off the lot. After 5 yrs of ownership, an average car's value is at MAX 50% of what you paid. After 5 yrs, you lose 10% per year.

So you are telling me in 5 yrs, a $9000 DEEPSEA is going to be worth $4500??? Let me know where .... i will buy a few ...

I have numerous antique firearms that have appreciated astonomically.

I know some of the vintage Rolex watches have as well but that doesn't apply to any I have.

I just love the fact that my 1980 DJ is still beautiful and still keeps great time.

Our Rolex watches are are the top of the list for holding their value.
We have some pieces of art that likely will appreciate but they are not liquid in the same way that Rolex watches are.
Our house should appreciate better than most investments but real estate in Ohio is not a very "liquid" asset at the current time.

That is cool. My dream "man room/study" will have an Eames Lounge chair and ottoman.

However, at this time nothing in my home holds value like my LV. Hell it's worth more than my car.

I think for those fortunate enough to be able to have a number of other luxury items, a Rolex may be somewhere on the list. For others, it may be the one thing they own that may continue to appreciate regardless. Well, until Rolex decides to stop raising prices every year. Yeah, right.

I knew a gentleman who knew wines. He would seek out wines that had 'promise' and buy them by the case at $3.00 a bottle in Europe on his annual travels. It must have worked well because he bought some serious luxuries with the proceeds. He once bought a brand new Mercedes roadster with a case of wine, for instance, and had a fair bit of original art on his walls. Interesting fellow, a total Renaissance man. I remember he was married to woman who could trace her family tree back to George Washington. (Must have been a sibling since George and Martha left no descendants).

My high end firearms do. For the most part. My Wilson, Les Baer and Kimber 1911's all are worth about what I paid for them having bought them used. Nothing else we buy and use daily holds it value or even increases in value. The exception being old muscle cars perhaps.
