Wow! I've had screaming abuse and cute, but extremely stupid salespeople who have zero knowledge of any watches, but have managed to avoid the high pressure bollocks from Rolex ADs. However, did get it from a sleazy real estate agent. I'm just really happy he restrained himself from trying to throw in a date as a deal sweetener.

I went into the AD in the Bellagio,Las Vegas over Thanksgiving....now my TRF pals informed me that I should expect no discount there,and, of course they were correct....but Hell...I thought I would ogle all the nice watches anyway.While I was looking, a young salesguy come over and informed me that,"you know....Rolex uses REAL gold in all their watches"....did'nt even look at my wrist that had my Blusey Serti Sub on it...kinda hard to miss. Then he said"you know the GMT is rare in all gold"......I left the store without saying another word. Hell, I may be a newbie,but I ain't stupid!....LOLOL!

Interesting thread. Am I the only one that thinks the AD should be mentioned by name and wonder if a complaint was made to the owner and what the reaction was?

Looks like the more she opened her mouth, the bigger hole she is digging for herself.. Is she that dumb? She did not realized that she is selling Rolex to the top 1% of the public population?
I would considered Rolex buyers and owners are smart people, Really smart people. Just look at another thread about "what Rolex you owned, and what you do for a living?"

Three days ago one of the Houston ADs told me that I should buy their SS GMTIIc NOW because their sport model cabinet would be empty by the end of business that day...oh and I found out that the SS GMTIIc is one of the rarest Rolexes for sale and thus they don't have to discount it or any other sport model because "they sell themselves"...who knew?!

P.S. I dropped by this afternoon and the only watch gone from that cabinet was a non-date sub...

It's truly amazing what some people say to try and make a sale. Really makes you appreciate those honest ADs who will work with you and at least not lie to you even if they won't give you a huge discount...and of course the wonderful sellers on TRF!!!

Well... maybe I am the exception and not the rule.

In 25 years of owning Rolex watches I have purchased six and still own 5 of those today. Those 5 were bought as follows:

Exp II: AD
GMT II: Reputable gray dealer with a bricks & mortar shop.
GMT IIC, DJ & OP: AD

Every buying experience I had was excellent. The ADs were extremely professional, knowledgable and 1st class. In many ways just as Rolex advertises. The gray dealer was equally good. I would be happy to recommend any of those options to prospective buyers. I also once bought an IWC Portuguese Chrono at Tourneau and believe or not that experience was actually pretty good too.

Having said that I have had varied experiences "window shopping" over the years. Many of those experiences were similar to some of the stories told. In the end I think it is all about doing your homework and having a relationship with the seller. That goes for ADs, gray dealers or our respected TRF ones. As others have stated before... "buy the seller and not the watch".

What is protocol on rolexforums.com with regards to anyone making comments on Ad's without revealing the name of the AD? Are there any rules about this? Is it commonplace or courteous not to name names?
Seems to me that in this thread anyone can make up any story they want about any AD with no way to verify or allow the AD a chance to defend themselves.
Since I am new here I am curious as to the accepted way to discuss AD's here. Anyone care to chime in and set me straight?

I have not had any high pressure tactics used on me at the AD I have used for purchasing two Rolex watches. No lying, no cleavage...nothing but integrity and honesty. And I got a discount to boot. I can not say the same for other AD's I've been in and I do not play games...I look...ask prices and whether they discount and then walk out and move on!!!

I just stopped in at an AD that I suspected would be at best OK. I wanted justto physically check out a SS GMT-C and Sub. I hope to be buying one(just decided GMT)
I was totally unimpressed by the experience. But I had expected it since this is a franchise.
Anyway after looking at the case for a few minutes I looked up and around. You'd think someone might approach us? Nope.
So I went over to 3 folks that were BSing and asked if I could see a couple of Rolex's.

One said sure, and in fairness walked back with me to the case and pulled em out. She said nothing about the watch and made no offer as to if I had questions or if I was interested in purchasing or anything like it. I've been treated more professionally at Wmart- sorry, I don't want to offend any wmart folks.

Anyway, I suspect this isn't a typical AD, but if I was Rolex, I would not give them my franchise.

This place did nothing for me to encourage to make a Rolex purchase- of course , they had a variety of watches and they didn't do anything to encourage the purchase of them either.

As we left, my wife asked, "what the heck was that all about?" I said that I told her it would be like a kmart/wmart and I just needed to see the watches. She said, "I know, but I really didn't think it would be worse."

But, my mission was accomplished. And I'll end it there. I suspect the "true" AD's are much different.

It shocks me that they employ such people in the first place. I would love to work at an AD for Rolex. They would rather have people who know nothing of watches selling them apparently.

On the other side of the coin,my "local" AD provides a very positive experience. They are always gracious and knowledgeable form the first time I walked in the door. So good,in fact that I have purchase three timepieces in my humble collection from them. Just thought I would add a little positive refection as well.

I am rather offended by many of the comments made by some of the members here about this sales associate. I feel like all around this forum, women are viewed as sex-objects, and not much more. I am surprised more women members are not speaking up. Does any one else find this board to be lacking in respect for women?

Never had the high pressure watch sales technique as I glean as much knowledge about my intended purchase and so any fairy stories stop very quickly as I often have more product knowledge than the sales people.
I know that this sounds big headed but I am shocked at how little the people selling Rolex know about the product they are selling. More so for the big chains here in the UK than a top class independent.

I quite like going into a new AD if I am in a different part of the country and seeing how they try to sell a watch to someone they think might be a push over. You just have to be able to see through the B*******!

I have had the high pressure sales recently when it came to trying to escape from a mobile phone company.
I am sure that the really hard nosed sales people are put on the disconnections line. Their job must be to pursuade you to stay with the provider but the lies the guy told were shocking.

When I visited my local AD they told me that the ND Sub would be difficult to find; tried to pressure me into the Sub C.

So, I began to do my homework and thanks to this forum, I was able to educate myself a bit. Found an AD in Wilmington, NC that had a 2010 ND Sub in stock.

Went by my local AD the other day, to pickup a cleaning cloth - they immediately saw the ND Sub and acted a bit offended. Won't be giving them my time or money - so childish and arrogant - it's just a watch.

Another note...If you build a relationship with your AD or grey market dealer then you wont have to deal with these issues......If so, there are other AD's and grey dealers...Find the ones you can work with..

Your seriously sticking up for an AD ?? They are in business to make the most money they can from you !! And if they throw in a few lies, its all good?? Hmmmm maybe your an AD lurking on TRF ??
