as long as you do not have a car payment, zero credit card debt, zero student loans. You must have an emergency fund in place and a plan B. (paln b example.. a credit card with 10K credit limit and some cash set aside) If you have all that taken care of then go for it. The house is not that big of deal. Renting is not as bad as people make it out to be. Owning a home is expensive and there are always upgrades and crap breaking. I will warn you though. Once you buy a rolex you will want to trade it and get another. It's like guitars, most guitarist buy sell buy sell. I'm perfectly happy with my 70.00 ebay Seiko automatic, its a great watch. The rolexes are milestones, or goals.

Good for you. You made the right decision. If you buy a house, you will likely be paying down the mortgage for many years. You may as well be wearing a Rolex while doing it, rather than living your life wishing you had one.

I bought my first in 1994, as a gift to myself, for my successes. No regrets.

Someone told me I could have purchased another car with what I paid for my watch.

My response: Yeah...and in 10 years, the car would be worthless. But my Sub certainly won't be. Think of it with the intention of making a purchase which will last you a lifetime and in the end, what you end up shelling out doesn't seem so bad.

Congrats on your success. I do, however, think that at 31 you should consider buying a home before that Rolex. It's probably the best time in the past 100 years to buy as prices in most areas of the country are way down there. For the money you spend on most new Rolex's you could put a down payment on a $150,000+ home. Just a thought. Enjoy your new watch and continued success in your career.
