Deployant, which seems to be the accepted term, does not seem to be a recognized "word" with any reputable dictionary, nor have I been able to determine it's etiology.

Would be interesting to see reliable documentation of it's origin. It does make sense as an extension of deploy.....to move into place.....

Very good thread!

Don't aminals like psgetti? My 4 year old grandson does. Irregardless, I suggest that you put the word deployant in bold print the next time you email him.

root is: the French verb deployere
the "-ant" is a suffix from French/Latin meaning (roughly) "that which does something"

tell your friend this:

deployment: the distribution of forces in preparation for battle or work.

deployant: hinged metal clasp on a watch strap or bracelet which is opened so you
can put the watch on your wrist.

I just noticed something. Is the little Rolex crown that little sea worm that is crawling on your watch, real, or photoshopped?

If it is a good friend, and you think the correction will be appreciated, then do it. A friend of mine kept saying renumeration instead of remuneration. He expressed thanks that I corrected something he had not known. Now he won't appear uninformed to someone else, who may judge him by his speaking or writing.

I've got mixed feelings on the matter. I cringe a little every time I see or hear butchered English (Dr. Phil really does say "noo-kyu-ler" family). But I would probably be too uncomfortable in most circumstances to correct anyone. I'd rather let it go.

Here, and at another forum, I saw the word "pallet" used when it should have been "palate." I might add these were quite intelligent, well-educated people. Do you know who you are? I hope not, or I'll feel bad.

Thanks, everyone, for your responses.

I know alot of you will disagree with me but I'm gonna go back saying "deployant" and not correct him. If he conforms then fine but if not, that's okay, too. Just today we were talking on the phone about watch straps and I mentioned "deployant". I don't think he'll ever say it right. The problem is there are many strap sites out there that call them "deployments" so he won't know any better. At least I'll look like I know what I'm talking about to others when I say it.
