And what is your definition of "bad" part of town (and please be honest about it)?

I have absolutely no time for someone who wears a fake Rolex. To me its a bad character sign. Its just a question of time(no pun inteneded),before that true character will be revieled. The mask will come off.If he cheats on Rolex,he will cheat in life ...

In the days that I could not afford a Rolex,I wore a real Seiko.I wore that watch for 7 years.I also bought my first Rolex, when I could afford it,not when I could buy it.I am proud of that fact.Funny, the longer you have to wait, the more the enjoyment, when reaching that goal.

I have a good chunk of money "invested" in Rolex watches and seeing someone wearing a fake will not bother me. We can still be friends even if you're wearing a fake Rolex and I will not belittle you for doing so.

Wearing a fake is his choice. Whatever floats his boat, to each his own, Your Mileage May Vary and all that crap. Life is too friggin' short to worry about fakes. Some folks really need to come back down to earth.

It does not bother me.Its not my problem.

I wont belittle,I'll ignore.

Wearing the real thing also means nothing, except that the person has exquisite taste in watches

..... and my feet are firmly planted on earth.Thank you

.... and dont tell me about life being to short.Spent 6 hours on a cardiac case yesterday.Have given anaesthesia to this person,on two previous occasions.Last night at 22H00 hours he died due to complications from the operation.Nothing fake about that.Thats pretty real.

When there are run down houses with heavy bars at their windows and doors. When the sidewalks were dangerous to walk on because of the cracks and potholes. When there are graffitis on every wall with gang insignia. When there are people passing out on the sidewalk and on their own urine. When the gas station attendant had a shot gun right next to him. When there were police cruisers racing up and down the streets with sirens on.
When people came up and asked for a dime. When the public phones were torn off from their booths and the glass windows all smashed.

I retired from a law enforcement agency so I know what a "bad" area is and I bet you do too.

I know where you are coming from, but these are observation calls and NOT judgments.

Sorry KemoSabe, I am from Washington State, not Washington, DC. Check your geography. I think it's "you're" instead of "your".

Hey RenoTommy.. Why would you stop and get gas in the "bad" part of any city in the first place? Especially if it was at night?? Thank God they didn't do anything to you though... Oh yeah, and I think minding other peoples' business is the "American Government Way", not the American way.... There are alot of U.S. citizens who don't agree with many of our governments decisions, especially under the current administration...

I was making that comment sarcastically.....about the American way. I wish we could go back to the Isolationism Policy that we had prior to WWII.

No, it wasn't at night and I guess that was how they saw my watch. I was stupid enough to forget not to put the watch into my pocket before getting out of the car. Now I know better. Oh, because my car was running out of gas and I didn't realize it was a "bad" area until I got off the exit. By then, I was afraid to run out of gas if I'd got back onto the freeway. I rarely go down to LA so I am NOT familiar with the area.

I think I'm with most on this post when I say I don't care. Honestly, I don't. Does it make me feel a little better that I know mine's authentic? Absolutely. Who wouldn't? Most of us are here because we love our watches more than the average Rolex-owner so there is a sense of pride, and there should be.
That being said, I also echo some of Chris' (Blue Bull's) sentiments. Although I don't think that a fake watch is a dead give away of someone's character (the same way a real watch isn't, either) there is something to be said (generally speaking) for someone who wants to wear a fake watch. We are in no position, however, to make determinations on how that individual is based on what they have around their wrist.
That being said, good fake or bad fake the only person you end up fooling is yourself, which I think is the biggest problem. But if that's what they want to do, FAR be it from me to judge someone else based on material accoutrements. In that case, like KJacques said, it's probably the person making the judgements who should be under closer scrutiny than the person receiving the judgement.

No, I don't want to start a "controversy" or an acrimonious atmosphere in this forum. Keeping it friendly to let everybody enjoy the "chat".

It's amazing how almost every thread that has anything to do with "Fakes" manages to eventually turn rather unfriendly.

Sorry, Tommy. This is a VERY friendly board, but sometimes people are set off by one thing or another in a thread, and things just go from bad to worse.

Probably best to just drop the whole thing and walk away.

BTW, the post I made that you are quoting was meant to encourage having fun. Apparently not working this time!

First of all, may be we should explore into why a person, other than collectors like myself and most of this forum members, would spend 2-3 months worth of an average worker wages to buy a (brand new) Rolex watch, while a $10 Wal-mart quartz watch can tell better time. Then (may be) we can understand why some Rolex owners get so offended by the fake ones. Is it ego? Is it disappointment that someone else can get as much attention by having a fake one?

I love MECHANICAL watches. I have watches all the way from Timex to Bulova to Rolex to Patek because they are arts to me and that's why I am a collector. As I previously mentioned, my daily watch is either a Bulova or a Gruen.
